If you want to try street foods of Istanbul, it should include the city’s sweets.

This is “halka tatlisi”, a type of dessert available almost anywhere in the city. This popular, delicious confection is made with a surprisingly basic recipe. The deep-fried dough is then dipped into syrup and cooled off. The result is a crispy and super sweet street dessert.

Istanbul streets are energy-sapping, but this Turkish street food can give you the full boost that’s needed.

Knüfe is a traditional Middle Eastern dessert made with spun pastry called soaked in a sweet, sugar-based syrup, and typically layered with cheese, or with other ingredients such as clotted cream, pistachio or nuts, depending on the region. It will be served with ich cream or cream.

Katmer is essentially a flaky pastry, prepared much the same way as flatbread (yufka) or baklava. However, what makes this food different (and especially indulgent and delicious!) are the generous amounts of butter and oil used in the preparation of the pastry.
