Excel PivotTable - Summarize data by Month or Day of the week

If you need to find out what day of the week is the most profitable or what day of the week do we receive the most support calls, Excel's PivotTables can handle it. PivotTables will group dates automatically. If you have any date field - invoice dates, order dates, hire dates - Excel will group by year, quarter, and month for you. No formula's needed. If you want to group by day of the week, we can use the TEXT function in Excel and group by the day of the week. In this example, I use PivotTable and the Text function to find out what day of the week do my YouTube videos get the most watch time in hours.

Items you could group by for Day or Month
* Revenue
* Expenses
* Profit or Net Income
* Subscribers
* Calls received or made
* Complaints received
* Staff calling out - I'm betting it is Friday :-)

Thank you, Chris! The way you simplified the pivot table was really amazing. I was new to the pivot and was looking for some help on YouTube. I had seen so many videos but your video was really good. I followed the steps and sent the data to my manager and he liked it. So thanks again for making my work simple.

My pivot table does not pic up date in the top column, only the labels of the 2 columns like yours - one with the date with cells formatted as Date and a 2nd column on the right with numeric values. Wierd huh?

I grouped all my excel worksheets into one using the query function. The table on query has the date column and the net profits. I'm trying to build a line performance chart with my 450 dates and net profit for each day. Somehow excel is not letting me do it. A message poos saying reference source data not bla bla bla.
Can someone help me?

Hi, I have a question. Is there a way I can create a spreadsheet that automatically inputs the data from a pivot table at the end of everyday? For example, at the end of one day, it will have a column with the date and the amount of carts inputted? Then the next row would be that days total - the previous days? To see how many carts are being inputted each day?

Please let me know if that makes sense. Thanks!

This isn't working for me because my dates have gaps between I created a second range of all dates in order and I'm trying to consolidate my original dates with respective unique data values to the long list of consecutive dates, but excel doesn't like that either
