Stop using manual mode on your camera. Use these settings.

Stop shooting on Manual. I’ll tell you why and share my camera settings. Cameras have become way too good and we can’t keep up. See why I only put one aspect of the exposure triangle on auto at any one time. Let's look at Street Portraits, Sunset Shots, Sports Photography and Wildlife Photography where I am using an auto mode on my camera and why I am using it.

SIR, after watching so many videos and taking classes, etc, you taught me the BEST lesson in just 7:04. Last week I spent $375 for a photography academy. I've learned some things from it and I haven't completed the entire course so I can't say it wasn't worth it. However, since watching your 7:04 video I now know I could have saved myself money and really regret I didn't see this video first. Wish I could be refunded but it's water under the bridge. I used your method at a football game yesterday and was blown away from your instruction! I nailed every shot by following just what you instructed!!! I made my adjustments to my camera settings prior to the game. Everything was set PERFECTLY. I'm so proud of the result of the photos I took and so thankful for your instruction. Your 7:04 instruction is SUPERB and SECOND TO NONE of the videos or training I've received thus far. As an amateur photographer I've been so confused over what settings to use in certain situations and you cleared it all up. I'm so thankful for your instruction. I can't say it enough! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

I’ve watched 2 of your videos over the past 2 weeks and I can honestly say the detail with explanations is beyond useful. Subscribed without a question.

Absolutely bang on. Correct advice for each situation. I’m a professional wedding photographer and have shot every single image I’ve ever taken at a wedding for 20 years in Aperture Priority mode.

Do not be bullied or feel you’re going to be an elite pro shooter by taking everything in Manual mode. Let that advanced camera you bought for lots of money do it’s job for you. Stop manking around with dials and settings and capture that precious moment before it’s gone!

Yes.. This was so on point. I am indeed very familiar with my camera settings but this was very enlightening. Gave me a whole new prospective. As I would only use M for studio and A or S for uncontrolled environments. This has now taught mw how to use M for uncontrolled environments letting the camera control only one aspect of the exposure triangle. You're a great teacher. Thanks.
Side note... I also don't have a problem using full auto P mode depending on the situation. It works just fine in most cases. Frees up the thought process. Sometimes I literally just want to "point & shoot". It's not always that serious.

Used to do a ton of photography years ago when it was ALL manual and just bought my first DSLR as I find time for shutter clicking again. Out of a ton of videos I’ve watched this one has truly shown me the way! Thanks so much!

This made so much sense, I’m trying to figure out where I went wrong.

This is such an interesting concept to me. I've always shot in manual mode outside of autofocus (minus manually setting focus points). I learned much of what I know in a studio setting but nearly all of my work is shot outdoors now. Saving time is brilliant and I will more than likely always have my ISO set to auto now. It is nice to shoot manually to understand the dynamics of your camera (I can confidently guess my settings in most scenarios). But man would I love to save the time for the sake of getting a great shot!

Wow! I'm just getting started and I honestly had no clue as to the amount of skill that goes in to taking a great photo. My hat goes off to all those photographers who are truly passionate about their craft as you are an inspiration to us all.
I find this information invaluable in my quest to become a great photographer some day! Thank you for taking the time to educate us newbies with your knowledge and expertise!

This is the best video ever for beginning photographers that haven’t figured out the minute things yet.

I watch a lot of Photography videos, and this is one of the best explanations for the how and why of shooting in different modes in different settings. It really explains a lot for me.

Thank you! Finally someone is confirming what i do. I started to think i am a less than average photographer because i am shooting for years now and every time im out in the daylight and on manual mode the first shot gets fried! I was embarrassed to change to a priority mode because i thought that makes me look unprofessional. I do get great shots but almost never on manual mode. Thank you again!

This may be one of the most helpful photography videos I have seen!

Well done. I agree with all of it. Aperture priority for weddings is very useful as well when the light changes a lot

Excellent video! I figured this out myself when I was frustrated that I couldn’t keep up in certain exterior shooting scenarios. You’ve confirmed it with great examples! This is a must follow recipe once a photographer has experience with the exposure triangle! Thanks!

wow this is something i actually do myself by keeping one of it at auto. i just intuitively find that more productive as i don't have to worry about missing my shots yet still having creative control. glad to see someone using this method too

Thank you, I use manual too often and you've convinced me to make much more use of auto for one of the triangle.

one of the most valuable videos i have watched on youtube for photography! a lot of the time i would not get the shot i want because i was not ready, literally charging up my camera asap!
Thanks!! inspired me to get back into to this and see what i can achieve today!

Um, I've missed shots because of my emotions (being too excited, ) but never because I shoot in manual. I set the ISO first then the aperture. I set the aperture based upon the look of the image I want. Finally, I zero in the exposure with the shutter speed. If the shutter speed is too low or high, I reset the ISO accordingly. When the exposure is zeroed in, all I have to do is to use the back-button focus and fire off a series of shots. Usually three to five. In post, I pick the best in the series to edit and print. I've even radically changed the exposure and still gotten the shot. Controlling your emotions and staying alert is far more important than any auto settings. But then, this is my workflow and it hasn't failed me yet.
