This is my first look at the Fujifilm GFX50S medium format mirrorless camera and the the Fujinon GF 45mm F2.8 R WR. I wanted to go out and take as many sample images and simply look at the files and give you an assesment of where I am going. Consider this video a small part of an ongoing development of the full camera review of the Fujifilm GFX50S that will eventually come in the near future. Remember that I only have three week to pixel peep, shoot, ans experience this camera.

yes, the delay is long, but like a hasselblad H; what the sensor is doing is writing, then doing a "wipe" of data, to ensure no noise is captured in the next shot, that is the delay, also this aids in cooling the pixels, to prevent noise in future.

Very nice video. I’m looking forward to the coming GFX 50R next month and my biggest concern is in stabilization. I don’t understand why Fuji doesn’t make more stabilized lenses??? They’d fly off the shelf. My first lens will be the 120mm stabilized macro/portrait lens. I’m hoping that Fuji also introduces another stabilized lens when the new camera debuts. The ideal would be a stabilized 70-200mm equivalent lens. Lastly, I wonder if Tamron or Sigma will offer stabilized lenses?

Hi Jacques, thank you for putting up this this video. Just a few comments to add to your video. With any high-res MF camera, there are many situations where the camera will need to be on a tripod for maximal detail and sharpness. On a Phase One IQ3 with 100 megapixels of resolution, the seismometer on the camera won't even let you actuate the shutter until it determines the camera is still/stable enough. There's just too much detail not to have maximal camera stability; that means a tripod. You saw some that with some of your flower shots. As for IBIS, respectfully, _it ain't gonna happen_ on a MF sensor, the sensor is too large and, most importantly, too massive to be able to design an effective IBIS system. The answer here is a good, stable tripod. The reason the center of the pineapple-shaped part of the flower at 17:05 in your video is soft is because at f/2.8, you are out of DOF. Its not due to the 1/500th shutter speed; you can't shoot that subject that close at f/2.8 with that lens and have more than about a couple of mm or so of DOF. With MF you have mimimally use 2 and often 3 stops smaller apertures to get your subject (the pineapple-shaped part of the flower) fully in-focus than what you are used to with smaller than MF sensors/lenses. I would have shot that flower minimally at f/5.6, and more likely f/8 to get that part of the flower completely in focus. In my admittedly limited experience with the GFX50S, you really have to spend time with the camera and lens to be able to "re-calibrate" and fully understand the hyperfocal distance for a given lens; translating over for what works for FF really does not work well for predicting DOF on a MF camera. Also, one parting comment regarding primes vs. zooms. Do NOT dismiss the optical quality of the GF 32-64 f/4 zoom; that lens is as sharp as a prime. Give it a try sometime. Also, another suggestion: get out and take some architectural shots with the GFX50S; you will be impressed. Thank you again for putting up this video. Cheers, Stephen

Would you recommend getting the 45mm over the 50mm 3.5 in terms of IQ ?

Your shot of the camera with 45mm: Did you say "this was opened up"? LR says it was F8, no? But at close distance DOF becomes small anyway. Specially at macro (which that shot of course isn't).

I like your case. Did the camera come in that case?

One thing that's even more interesting about this moving forward, more in terms of utility, is the FF crop mode and the expander Fuji built to expand the S35 image circle to FF. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they to build something similar for X-Mount lenses for the GFX.
