Wow that’s environmental portraiture heaven. Softens the background without obliterating it beyond recognition. And the minimum focus distance ain’t a big deal... lots of resolution to crop in on. This will be added to my collection once it goes on sale again!!

More than the lens or camera you’re using or reviewing, it’s your images that stand out and stay with me. Thanks for sharing them with us. I love seeing the photos with your voiceover thoughts on the setup. Such beautiful moments you capture - your love for your family shines through these videos. Great work - always look forward to your videos. Would love to see a video from you about how your relationship or view of some of your own favourite or noteworthy images have changed over time. Would love you hear your thoughts on a subject like that.

40mm equiv is super under rated imo, especially on 4:3 sensors. My 20mm lives on my m4/3 camera, and I can't believe how much I prefer it to 17 (35) and 25 (50). I find the 28-35mm field of view to be a lifeless deadzone between actually wide lenses and standard stuff.

It is 2021 now, 2 days ago I bought a Fuji GFX 50S + Battery Grip + GF50mm f3.5 with 62mm UV filter and all the boxes for $3800. The kit was owned for 2 years, but hardly used by the previous owner. I don't know if I paid too much for it, since the 50S was introduced 4 years ago and now that a Mark 2 is rumored coming out in August. Oh well....

This lens & camera combo doesn’t take photos instead it capture moments, it have the same character as film but in a modern way Amazing! f3+ lenses are vary underrated.

This, the 50/3.5 is my first GFX lens, though I've saved up enough money to buy GFX 50S as my first MF camera. I love the pictures I get with 50/3.5, I couldn't really imagine how great image quality is with this lens.

Total agree, bought the camera last month with this lens and honestly I might just glue it on. The 80mm next year could be worth looking at though.

i have this lens and i cant agree with you more. the image quality is superb and the build quality is rock solid and the price of US$500 just made the lens even more attractive

great review, and really stunning images of your family. Treasured memories for the future.

Glad you are happy with your purchase. Your conclusions regarding the kit are clearly based on the content of the images. Without that emotional connection I am seeing soft snaps that many rigs could generate without any effort.

OK, you tipped me over the edge. Next purchase. Hopefully it will fill the void my Fuji GW690II used to fill (which I shot for the first time in 20 years last week, can't wait to get my film back).

This setup would be my camera grail, a compact MF camera for run-n-gunning through the city and travels. Thanks for the review, Kentucky.

This is the gfx equivalent of the EF 40mm 2.8. Way sharper than it ought to be, light and nimble, enough depth of field but not too much, super natural field of view.
