2 minute Tutorial on applying armor/weapon mods for SWTOR.

Most of the items in SWTOR can change their stats through modding.
If an item has the maximum number of mod-slots, almost all it's stats can be swapped out for different stats. Reverse engineering can add certain "prefix"s to the name of the item which are in addition to the modded stats.

Modds usually make up the majority of your item's stats, so they're more important than enchants in WOW.

@Vereonis [weps from quests but then they have no slots] ... item with slots are rare now in SWTOR. during beta they were everywhere. it quickly allowed ppl to have much higher stats than normal lvl, so they make gear with slots rare. you'll always find a few during Heroic quests that ur party will have to role for.

Yes and no. Yes some gear you find, you can swap out the mods to change all the stats. So you might find a metal bikini and mod all it's stats to be end-game viable. But not every single piece of gear you find has all mod slots, so a lot of gear is stuck at low levels.
If you put a high-level mod in low level gear, the required level jumps up to high level.
They recently added a way to remove a mod-slot without destroying it, but it can cost thousands of credits to remove a mod.

@Vereonis Yeah, the CTRL right-click modding was added after I made this video. You can turn on item tooltips that always show the mod-slots in interface preferences. But one advantage of the mod-table is it shows ALL items with mod slots automatically. This launch build it seems like there is even less mod-slotted stuff other than orange quality.

Mods can also be picked up from commendation vendors as of the stress test betas :)

Try the other CTRL +click. One is the wardrobe, one is to modify items. But only items that say "ctrl right click to modify" on them can be modifiable.

@Vereonis ["how can you tell if an item has mod slots"] ..uhh LOOK at it.. right click.
it & will list what slots it has. the color indicate the "rare/special" the items ( most orange will have 3+ slots available" there are item that are blu/prpl that have slots too... you just have to LOOK at it. BTW if you put all blue items in the slots item will be blue.

Correction for Release SWTOR: Modification tables are no longer on your ship. And most of locations that had Tables in Beta are all GONE =(. Even Fleet stations don't have tables. They only have a couple per planet now. They've made it ALOT more time consuming, to buy mod items on GTN, and quickly upgrade gear. If you Find a GTN kioks you can bet on the worktable being far far away.

You don't need the modification table, or so I've found so far in the game, which yes seems strange, you just ctrl right click the item while equipped and it opens the mod pane.

Also I have a question, how can you tell if an item has mod slots, or only orange named items have mod slot for example when it comes to lightsabers. As I get upgrade weps from quests but then they have no slots....

so, if i understand this correctly,

if i like the looks of a low level item, i can just change the mods, and make it viable for high level use?

can you take the mods off of high level gear and put it in lower level gear?
or are the mods destroyed when u take them out of the item?

i cant modify armoring of the tionese equip, but i can modify mod and enchanmet, how i can modify it?

This video is a bit out of date. It was made in beta.
Since then, the system has got a bit more complicated. For example, armorings are slot-specific unless crafted. So you CAN'T take a tionese leg armoring and put it in the gloves armoring slot. That may be your issue.

Flashpoints currently drop Columi, and by next month flashpoints should drop black-hole, both far stronger than Tionese.
