This is an update about the mod system in TOR
Summary:
Color Coded Gear: Orange (Fully Modifiable), Blue (Rare), Purple (Epic), & Green (Common)
Orange Gear can be obtained around level 8 through class quests, space quests and social gear
Modifications are removable
Modifications can be done anywhere (a workbench is no longer required)
Looted / Quest Modifications can now be reverse engineered
4 standardized slots
Crafters have a whole bunch of moddable gear they can make with recipes from mission skills. All the "green" quality gear sets have a crafted item with that appearance.

I'm not sure what time period you're talking about of beta, but I seem to remember everyone on the beta-boards loving the mod system and, if anything, complaining about how many items are not fully moddable. Then we complained that the set-bonus's were not moddable so end-game people ended up all looking alike. Unless you mean the "we need an appearance tab" thread. Many felt modding was an inadequate alternative to an appearance tab.

Game video was with "fraps".
Dev posts taken by hitting "printscreen" and pasting it into a blank .bmp file.
Placing the game footage next to dev post was done with adobe After Effects 5

3 huttball matches is 12k if you win everytime and it costs me 23k to remove mods

Yep, they went ahead and put this crappy mod system in the game even though we told them numerous times during the beta that we hated it!
