For the last few years, OLED TVs only really came from two players in the US: LG and Sony. For most of the year, the LG CX reigned supreme. Now Vizio has just thrown their first-generation OLED TV into the mix to try and undercut the big guys; let's see if it worked.

Vizio OLED 2020:

Model tested: 55” (OLED55-H1)
Should also be valid for the 65”

LG CX OLED:
Model tested: 55” (OLED55CXPUA)
Should also be valid for the 48”, 65”, 77”

Price is also an important aspect that is missing in the video.

The CX absolutely has VRR stuttering issues at the moment that have been well documented. Wish they didn’t gloss over this with also saying all advertised CX gaming features are working without a hitch.

I experienced temporary image retention with my CX55 this week, after just 10 days of use, but I was literally taking no precautions, opening the TV at 7AM and closing it 13 hours later, with no screensaver, taskbar hiding or any other precaution.

The first sign I noticed is a horizontal band appearing at the top of the screen while I was playing Elite. Initially I thought it was the NVidia overlay, but later realized the band matched the height of Chrome's header area, which for me is almost always open if I'm not gaming. Switching to a dark skin will prevent this, but this made me want to check for more signs of burn-in.

I ran more tests and found the taskbar icons had began to burn in as well at the bottom.

A pixel refresher fixed this easily, but this really gives me pause about using an OLED screen as a work monitor with static UI (Adobe programs are what I use the most). I wonder how laptop with OLED screens work around this problem.

I'm going to keep using my Dell professional monitors for work purposes and just use my CX55 for gaming and watching media content.

Gaming at native 4K120 in HDR with G-Sync is worth all of these little hassles by the way, just want you guys to know to take precautions if you intend on not keeping another monitor to work on alongside the OLED. I have not experience tearing issues with 03.11.25 and the RTX3080.

I really think you guys need to add ‘black crushing’ as a category. After seeing these TVs side-by-side at Best Buy, I decided real quickly there was no way I could get the LG because of how badly it handles shadows and dark details

All i can focus on is that Colt McCoy grew a stash and is no longer in the NFL.

Thank you all guys for making it easier to choose between TVs with different dimensions. You helped me lot.

Cx is indeed showing vrr issues. Users are reporting stuttering when the refresh rate is between 75-120. I just got a 3080 and can confirm this. If I cap the frame rate to 90 I get stuttering. If you show the hidden vrr menu by pressing the green button on the remote 7 times it will show the refresh rate jumping all over the place even though the frame rate is locked to 90. For comparison, on my Acer predator the refresh rate stays at 90 when the fps are locked to 90.

Everytime I see a person walk towards the camera with an intro, I think about how may retakes it took to get it right. Sometimes you forget to look at the camera, accidental laugh, tongue twist words etc

As of November 2020, prices at Best Buy: Vizio 65" OLED US$1800.00, LG 65" CX US$1900.00. Go with LG, no doubt! Best OLED out there at this moment. I thought Vizio would have a much lower price point getting into the game at this point.

I don’t understand how rtings can say the VRR on the CX is functional and give it a 7.9/10 rating when there is noticeable screen tearing. Isn’t that the very definition of not working?

This is excellent. Vizio is clearly missing a lot of features that I value in the LG CX. Video gave me the info I needed.
