Can You Change God's Mind?

In the Book of Genesis, Abraham bargains with God not to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. In other areas of Scripture, we can see other people like Moses seemingly bargaining with the Lord in order to request favors. Is it possible to change God's mind? In this video I answer it from a Catholic perspective.

“the essence of the Scriptures is not the letter, but the meaning”

I used to write stories, and sometimes in my stories, I bring God-like divine beings into conversations. In these conversations, I use the Biblical God’s style of speaking. While writing, I noticed something interesting. What I understand the most is that people don’t convince God; His plan is already made. However, He asks His people for their opinions.

When we read the Bible, we can interpret some passages as though God was convinced by someone, but it’s actually part of His will. God asks His people for their thoughts as a way to give them hope.

In God’s speaking style in the Old Testament, He sometimes appears to take the opposite side, trying to get His people’s thoughts. However, the truth is that His people’s thoughts don’t actually convince Him. It only seems that way because it was already part of His plan.

JESUS CHRIST!, THIS IS THE HARDEST THING TO EXPLAIN TO OTHER PEOPLE BECAUSE IT'S MY UNDERSTANDING OF GOD'S WAY OF SPEAKING BY READING THE BIBLE AND WRITING STORIES. SO IF I MAY NOT MAKE SENSE TO SOME OF YOU, IT'S BECAUSE I'M NOT GOOD AT EXPLAINING THINGS. BUT WHAT I SAID IS: "GOD IS THE BIG BOSS WHO HAD PLANNED EVERYTHING BEFORE WE EVEN SPEAK. SO WE CAN'T CONVINCE HIM TO DO THE OPPOSITE OF HIS WILL BECAUSE IF HE AGREED WITH US, IT MEANS IT'S WHAT HE WANTED. IF HE DIDN'T AGREE WITH US, HE WOULDN'T ASK US IN THE FIRST PLACE."

I've felt that I have ruined God's original plans for my life because of my sins.

Intercession makes sense to me deeply. If you think about it, would you say no to someone special to you who's asking a favor even if it's on behalf of someone? What more with God who is unfathomably forgiving.

In the instances of God changing his mind, it actually displays God's character and consistency; for example, God blesses and prospers a nation to start but they become sinful and he continues blessing them that would be unjust therefore that would cause God to actually change, however we see that he doesn't do that and always punishes the nation hence the consistency. In "changing his mind" he actually remains unchanged. If you want a more in depth breakdown of this concept check out Sam Shamoun's streams on this amd if you're short on time there are clips from said streams on channels such as "Shamounian clips", "Towards Jesus", "Christ over all" and many others. God bless you all.

Well, Guillerme of Ockam said:
"Being God omnipotent, Who are we to said that God could or couldn't change his mind If He wants to?".
There is only a thing we have for sure, God is Love and everything good comes from him because He dictamines what is good.

I look at it less as someone changing God's mind and more as He knew what they were going to ask long before they were formed in the womb.

Like the Abraham story, where he was going to sacrifice his son Isaac to God, but the Lord sent one of his angels to stop him because he knew he would do it, it was a test of if Abraham would put him over his own family.

I think the most obvious one is where in the old testament he's a wrathful God but in the new testament he's a forging god✝️✝️✝️

It's entirely possible (but not correct to assune it happened since we need there, so we really cannot come to know in full detail what happened) to think that the verse refers to the impossibility to find 50 religious men, which is what God wanted to demonstrate, not to us, but to the reader, the difficulty of finding 50 men with good hearts.

Hey bro. I was violently opposed to your channel and what you post/posted about, as a protestant back then. Im very embaraased so im not gonna use the account from back then.. Here to say thank you for continuing doing the right thing. While i still disagree with Roman Catholicism, you're a brother to me now, as someone who is converting to orthodoxy from protestantism.

Keep it up brother.. and im sorry for the stuff i used to comment.

God always knew what would happen, but still allowed for this "changing his Mind" to develop relationship with Moses.

If you are praying and its not in god's plan
Then its useless.
If what you want is in god's plan,
Then there is no need to pray.

If what you want is not in god's plan and you proceed to work hard to get what you want
Isnt that going against god's will?

If we have freewill then god has no plan.
If god has a plan then we have no freewill.

The only way to believe in god is through brainwashing.

The way I see it, God's decisions in any circumstance are eternally predefined according to his perfect knowledge, will, and judgment.

If we ask we shall recieve. God knew if you were going to ask. That doesn't mean we should'nt ask in the first place.
