I like how his team can make cute animation and gruesome ones at the same time

The Davy Crockett has to be one of my favorite experimental weapons. The idea of mounting it on a jeep, firing, and driving as far away as possible is hilarious to me lol

The reason the Davey Crockett was never used is well documented, its blast radius is larger than its own firing range. The solders using it dont survive either.

Ah yes nuclear weapons, they are like a " To whom it may concern" blast radius

Good old Davey Crockett. Main problem with that was it was essentially a suicide bomb with an extension cord, because even when things went well, the mortar team was still danger close...

I realize two kilometers is pretty good for a mortar system, but that still feels a touch too close for a tactical nuke.

“Copy that, deleting that area”

Why is everyone in that mortar position a captain? 😂

So I'm going to be THAT guy and say it... The Davy Crocket wasn't a mortar, it's a Recoilless Rifle. The firing tube is open at both ends and it fires on relatively flat trajectory, rather than in a parabolic one.

It was specifically made as a Recoilless Rifle system, to make it lighter so it could be carried on a jeep or by a team of infantry and a Mortar would have a far shorter range, meaning the team firing it would certainly get vaporised in the blast.

The US also developed nuclear artillery, an atomic 280mm round fired from a howitzer nicknamed "Atomic Annie." It also was never used in combat.
