I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.

Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumble

This golf lesson provides a couple of wonderful drills to help you strike a ball with an iron. Okay, I rarely comment on any videos (maybe never?), but this deserves one. I played two rounds of golf over the weekend, and using this method to chip probably saved me 2 strokes each round. In fact, I even chipped one in from the side of the green. I found that I was able to get a really good feel for both distance and aim. I highly recommend!

Chipping is my favorite part of golf. Some great tips Danny. Can I add 1 more. Don’t be afraid to make a bad chip. Even the best in the world sometimes fluff a chip. It happens and if you accept it, chipping can be much more fun.

I had no confidence with my 56 deg wedge around the greens over the last few years- lot of thin and fat chips followed by 3 putts. What great, easy to follow, instruction for such a critical, oftentimes troublesome, aspect of the game. I've searched high and low for help with my chipping yips (including even Phil Mickelson's videos) and this man has imparted a solid technique that I've taken and now use effectively. Buds have stopped shaking their heads and laughing at me now. What a relief.

Great video, Danny. I have a great visualisation tip for short game distance control (for putting too). Do three practice swings: one that would be too hard; one that would be too weak; and the third one just right. Give it a go.

Hi again Danny. I’m a ~21 handicapper and have always struggled with my short game. Historically, I’d either attempt to putt from a crazy distance out or usually fat/thin my 58 degree to an embarrassing end.

I’ve just returned from our annual golf tournament (Celtic Manor this year) with a first place trophy. Using the methods outlined here (and practicing before) I felt incredibly confident around the greens. I’d find myself looking forward to taking out my Gap wedge, attacking the shot and usually leaving it ~6 foot from the pin if not in gimme territory. It takes out the complexity and leaves an extremely manageable shot.

I 3-putted only 6 times across 3 rounds and managed 39 stableford points on the 2010 course on the last day.

Just wanted to extend a massive thanks for all your advice and time taken on these videos, this one has genuinely reinvigorated my love of golf.

You may have one and I haven’t yet found it, but a video on sensible course management tips for ~15-25 handicappers would be really helpful if you’re looking for ideas 😆 as mentioned before, I also have the same shoes, so maybe that’s it 😉 thanks again.

Very timely for me Danny - thanks. These short chips are terrifying for me - 90% of my ‘unforced error’ shots happen here - my putting is pretty good, my variable drives can be rescued, but I often fluff short chips - sometimes following a fluffed 3 foot chip with an over compensated thin that shoots away- and those extra shots add up!

Best explanation ever of how ball spin affects the roll out on the green. Watching your stroke, you can see that your backswing is the length as your follow through and it is a nice easy "putter-like" stroke. I love your showing how the alignment stripe on a ball can help you get the ball rolling/spinning true. When in the yard, I will use the two color Skilz (black/yellow) to show spin. Much the same principle. Great lesson to use when working on the chips around the green in the backyard!
