Spain's economy minister has told DW Business her country is ready to become Europe's energy hub. Nadia Calvino spoke with DW’s Pablo Foley Elias as Spain aims to establish itself as a key strategic source of power for the EU. The country is banking on renewable technology and in particular, green hydrogen. Spain has the opportunity to become a very important player in Europe not just in energy production but international relations with north Africa and latin America. I really hope they play their cards right and become a power house. I was in Spain a couple a weeks ago and their infrastructure is definitely ahead of north America.

This lady has the best non-native English of any politician I've seen outside of Scandinavia. Really impressive.
Edit: I see quite a few other people already said this. 😂

Hopefully one day English politicians can speak Spanish at the same level that Minister Calviño speaks English.

Such a great interview. Minister Calvino is well spoken, knows her stuff and delivers confidence in the responses. Great to hear about the recovery in Spain and continued importance of their role in the upcoming year in the leadership position.

Yes, Spain, please do.

It's time for Southern Europe to overcome the reputation of contributing less to Europe and having weaker economies.

Spain has a ring of low population land around Madrid that is perfect for solar energy production. Fusion energy could also be produced there in the future.

spain has already proved it has the infrastructure for a majority renewable energy grid. in addition, it is also a country full of tons of unique culture whereas western europe is perhaps a bit one dimensional (and very old); it would be fantastic to see spain take a larger role in the eu

Thank you DW for giving international news that often isn't covered as widely in the US. I envy European stability in comparison to the US and wish I could live there or in Japan (sadly not to easy to move to other countries without skilled labor or a job with a high salary). I hope someday I can leave the US. Progressive Europe is what I wish the US was more like, but we are too divided:'( I miss the days when we lived in relative peace.

Wow.

Looks like the perfect successor one day to von der Leyen. Extremely eloquent, concise enough, an amazing communicator.

Probably the best economy minister Spain has ever had, specially because she's not a politician, but a technocrat.
It must be said that the previous ones left the bar low (corruption cases, even convicted of misappropriation).
Thanks for the video.

Ok as a German I agree that being dependent on Spain is much better than being dependent on Russia……

The only geopolitical risk I see is if we want to discuss the by us occupied territory of Mallorca.

Never thought that a Spanish politician could speak English at that level. My respect to Minister Calviño.

Minister Calvino sounds well-informed, confident, competent and sane. If only she would come to the UK and do politics here.

I love that on DW there seems to be a friendship between many of those being interviewed and the interviewers. It just raises the quality of the already high quality journalism DW does.
