Former Army Ranger and ex-MMA fighter, Tim Kennedy, shares his thoughts about his old boss, John “Shrek” McPhee. Tim explains that while John may not be a great “people person”, he was one of the best warfighters the USA had in the Global War on Terror (GWOT).

In my 6 years of service in the ADF there was allways a " John McFee" in my Regiment, usually a NCO who at times I hated yet when it hits the fan their soldiering was why you lived and went home to your loved ones.

We had people who hadn’t deployed yet joking and laughing while doing trauma training before my third tour. I had my SSgt gather everyone up and getting a class room. Simply stated that I’ve been through two tours, lost three brothers each tour. So more than likely three of you won’t come home alive. They stopped playing around once that set in. Lost my best friend and squad leader on that last tour. A serious warfighter and great human.
