Collecting Cars Contributor Darryl Foster recently made a trip to meet The Widowmaker, this 1975 Porsche 911 (930) Turbo 3.0.

This 930-generation Porsche 911 Turbo is an exceptionally rare and highly sought-after classic performance supercar. A 1970s icon, it is offered from long-term ownership and benefits from an extensive previous restoration. This is one of just 22 right-hand drive UK-market 1975 model-year examples ever built, with an appealing colour scheme, iconic styling, and boasting a potent turbocharged flat-six engine coupled to an engaging four-speed manual gearbox (the seller noting it is capable of 90mph in second gear).

This car is live on Collecting Cars as a part of the Turbo Collection, check out the auction via our link below:

One of the most iconic cars ever produced imo.

I'm so chuffed you mentioned "look where you want to go" which is a rule l have followed for 50 years. It works. It's saved me many times. I learnt the hard way by looking where l was, and hit a tree. I will always recall, had l looked where l wanted to go, l would never have crashed. Good rule. Use it.

Not all firsts are the bests. But when I had a chance to drive a few 911s over 4 days, I was hooked. Too bad I just never could afford one, regardless which model. But they were so awesome, amazing cars!

The Porsche 911 RS America is very similar in design just without the turbo. It has the same brake horsepower as the 930 Turbo. I had a 1993 model year RS America 911 and it was so fun to drive. After 8 years of ownership I sold it for the same price as I paid for it. Now the exact car is worth 3 times its original price. You couldn’t buy another car that had more sports car enjoyment.
Good video!!! Thanks for sharing!!!!
Cheers‼️👍👊💪🏆

Did you call that an 8-Track holder? It's old, but not THAT old ;-)

@1:50 "...but I never really associated the 911 Turbo with motorsport DNA, until now." uhhh what? It is literally where it came from. Can we please get Chris Harris back or someone that at least has some car knowledge and isn't a DEI hire.

Nice car but not a fan of the Red Tartan interior. IIRC Tartan was the default trim for the base model 911 of the era. The 930 Turbo from the Brochures of my youth was White exterior with Black metalwork. It had a Black Leather/Black cloth with White pinstripes interior. That's the spec I'd love to own.

Great presentation and video in general, BUT not even being allowed to run the car or at least start it!!! Btw, the link to the 'Turbo Collection' did not work either. I had to dig for that on your website. 2 Porsche Crests out of 5 for this video. Still subscribed, but hoping for improved content.

Ok, not a boomer but man are you making me feel old. You did not know of the turbo's motorsport heritage? Every Porsche built prior to the Panamera/Cayenne/Taycan/Macan has nothing but motorsport heritage. Even lowly models like the 914 or 924.
But what really gets me is the "widowmaker" moniker. There might have been a autorag journo or 2 who used the term or something similar, but I can tell you for certain that it was not something car people generally used to describe the 930. Until the internet. And I am a German/American who has owned and raced Porsches since my early 20's after falling in love with them at the age of 10 or so. Not a thing. Really. But it is clickbait, isn't it?
How 'bout doing a vid on how the term "widowmaker" used for the 930 is an internet meme and was not used in this context regularly until the 2000's sometime? That should get some clicks and, in contrast to this vid, it's never been covered before.

Clickbait title and fluff content. You're really just selling generally uninteresting cars and capitalizing on 911 hype.

Unsubscribed.
