Russia does not hate Japan. From Russia's point of view, there is no territorial dispute, it's just that Japan does not want to sign a peace agreement. In 2005 Japan was already offered to take the 2 most southern islands, but they rejected the offer and put a claim on all the islands. Then Russia, in response, stopped the negotiations for a long time. Then Japan softened its position, but again agreed to the take back all 4 islands, and by that time Russia already had tense relations with the United States, and Japan is actually a vassal of the United States, so there can be no concessions, since the US can use these islands to threaten Russia.

I'm from Russia and I don't hate Japan. I don't think even anyone from the government hates Japan.

These islands have a little longer history than WWII-Today. They moved from one country to another and back a lot of times.

The video incorrectly claims that Russia cites the Declaration of 1956. In fact, it's Japan who claims that the islands should be transfered to Japan under provisions of this declaration (on condition of a new peace treaty). Soviet sovereignity over this island was established under the Treaty of San Francisco 1951.

My personal opinion is that the islands should go to the nation which wants to develop them. But neither Russia nor Japan plans any development.

Japan seems to need these islands only to expand its territorial waters.
