In an eye-opening discussion on the Joe Rogan Experience, Andrew Huberman explores the surprisingly complex and contentious topic of hydration. From the basic recommendation of consuming 80oz of water during the day to enhance cognitive and physical function, to the debates over pH water, deuterium depleted water, and reverse osmosis water, Huberman navigates the varied and passionate opinions within the water community. He also introduces the Galpin Equation for optimizing hydration during training, emphasizing the scientific and sometimes geeky nuances of maintaining proper hydration. Whether it's structured water or the mineral content of your H2O, Huberman's insights shed light on the importance of understanding what we drink and its impact on health and performance.

Once you start drinking tons of water, you’ll never understand how you lived not drinking water. You just feel dehydrated all the time.

Craziest experiment I've done with drink water is only drinking water as your beverage for 30 days. You start to only thirst for water because everything else seems like syrup.

80oz is about 2.5 liters of water, it's really not that much, 2 liters is generally given as the 'survival' amount for an active person.

As someone who carries 64 ounces of water with him literally everywhere I go, I cannot fathom people who don’t drink water

Reverse osmosis is a thing because it filters out the chlorine used to treat it

I'm developing dehydrated water for backpackers and preppers. Should be shelf stable for eons.

I use my muscles, i get thirsty and then i drink water with electrolytes. Im super hydrated. You dont need to time your water, just be aware of your thirst and use your muscles to circulate it through your system.

I couldn’t care less but I’m glad that someone cares about our water quality and does studies on what is good for you, so that I don’t have to think about it. The water people may be crazy but they’re saving billions of lives.

I genuinely am one of those people that just can’t get into drinking that much water. I know I should just suck it up but it’s just not enjoyable and as soon as I drink even a glass I’m pissing it straight out. I don’t feel like plain water gets absorbed and so if I drink fluids I either drink milk, juice, or I combine electrolyte powder to flavour the water to try and boost the absorption 🤷🏼‍♂️

Shadowed under a nephrologist. He noticed that I drank water even when I wasn’t thirsty. He was like, “you gonna go work out after this or are you just over hydrating for no reason.” I was shook. I asked how much water I should be drinking. Bro hit me with, “filtered water and when you’re thirsty.”

I drink water if I'm thirsty or my piss is getting brown.

I am a 6 year hard weight lifter and I'd get these crazy cramps from lifting hard. I thought I hydrated enough. I did not, so after doing at least 80 ounces per day the cramps were minimalized greatly. I learned this last summer and have never stopped every day drinking lots and lots of water.

Reverse osmosis fan here. I just re-mineralize and it's all good. Love RO in glass or aluminum bottles. Watch out for the micro-plastics fam. Only RO removes it and flouride too. Come to the RO side and you'll feel the difference. You can get an RO system for $300 or less

So I've been told 1.5 to 3 liters of water per day by a doctor. I usually drink about two liters.
