Time for new CPU day - the first batch of new AMD Zen 5 CPUs are here! This will be my launch review of the 9600X and 9700X. In this video we'll take a look at what's new and benchmark against the 7700X, 7600X, 7800X3D, 5800X3D, 14700K and the 14600K. Come see why these are such great CPUs (although not immediately apparent).

The New CPUs should see retail availability on August 8th, 2024:

One correction: I misinterpreted AMD's slides incorrectly on the L3 cache. The figure they gave was L2+L3, so the 9600X and 9700X each still have 32MB of L3 cache. The 9600X has 6MB L2 + 32 MB L3, and the 9700X has 8MB L2 + 32 MB L3. The speed and latency is definitely improved with the new architecture, however.

I set my Alarm early today to watch these reviews, and you're the first one up. You never dissapoint.

This is the best review on 5/7 series Zen5's currently. You've outdone the big players like HW & GN on this one, if we're being completely honest. The second I saw their testing samples my first thought was "you can't tell me these CPUs are intended to work like that, there surely is a catch" — and damn right there is. I say give manufacturers time to optimise new CPUs for their current batches of motherboards, fix RAM compatibility issues + maybe wait for the new chipsets to see what Zen5 is truly capable of. Additional $30-50 price cut in 6-8 months will certainly make these CPUs perfect for purchase.

Great review, you went above and beyond on this one. Love the focus on power efficiency. And the fact that you somehow manage to not shout out as many words per second as possible, it’s very soothing for a tired brain.

I love your focus on ITX builds for things. Watched a slew of your videos and plan on building an AM5 7700x system (got one on discount during prime days) for my son's 18th birthday in the NR200 I was able to get for 30 bucks after discount and rebate. :) Great vid!

Thank you for showing curve offset data, I'm looking forward to seeing more on how to get the most from these chips. Thumbs up!

Good review. You're providing very good point as to why these new cpu are good buy for certain use cases.

9000 series seems like the best choice for sff builds <3

Thank you for doing power-matched testing. I watched HUB and GN and they didn't really bother to measure the chips apples-to-apples to see how much improved the 9000 chips are. Although, I think that AMD's strategy will confuse the average consumer, who won't be aware that the new chips use far less power nor will they bother to look into overclocking to reach a higher performance level.

Do people NOT know that the Ryzen 7 7700 NON-X exists? It consumes the same power as the 9700x, has 98% the performance of the 7700X and costs 250$...

My favourite tech channel, counting the days to the 9900X video... and if you could compare it to the 7900X/7950X in an SFF case that'd be sweet ;)

Love the way you build your pcs back from intel 10th Gen. Thanks for the awesome reviews as always Machines & More!👍

Your opinion is refreshing in a sea of negativity. I think an 11% IPC uplift after two years is very close to stagnation, but the focus on power efficiency, as you explained, makes sense and is commendable.

they gonna become solid chips over time with bios updates, new chipset and price cuts. It looks like i wont swap my 5800x3d any time soon, its perfect with 7800xt that i wont be upgrading soon as well how things look now. Good review.
