Realizing a Free and Open Indo-Pacific: Panel 1

Показать описание
The Abe Shinzō administration debuted its Indo-Pacific strategy in 2016, calling for a Free and Open Indo-Pacific, or FOIP. Subsequently, not only did the United States adopt the approach, but the concept has spread among regional countries seeking to maintain a stable rules-based order. With so many states focused on the Indo-Pacific region, and the U.S.-Japan alliance keeping FOIP central to their regional engagements, it is critical to better understand how the alliance is working together in the region and how regional countries are responding to this engagement.
RAND, Japan House Los Angeles and Japan's Consulate General of Los Angeles explore questions such as: How do American and Japanese experts assess their countries' free and open Indo-Pacific strategies regarding security and economic issues? How are regional countries pursuing their own strategic engagement? And how might the situation evolve moving forward?
This conference will explores the perspectives of U.S. and Japanese specialists, as well as representatives of other regional countries, and contribute to public understanding of the key issues confronting Washington and Tokyo.
