Connor Bedard is the most hyped NHL prospect since Connor McDavid and Sidney Crosby. Aside from his deadly release from range, we break down what makes Bedard SO good in 1 on 1 situations with the goalie, and how he uses different moves based on his angle of attack.

His release is often "off beat" to his skating and stick handling making the shot seem to come out of nowhere. Just so fluid. Joy to watch.

I'm a goalie, I like seeing breakdowns of how players make these moves. You're correct that it's difficult for defence and goalies to counter. Thank you!

You just told all the goalies his moves. Now he is gonna be a bust 🤣

While they aren’t comparable in size, Connor sees the game like 66. I’m more impressed with his vision. He doesn’t do it through extraordinary skill like 97, shaping the play like 99, but by being so dominant around the perimeter, he creates opportunities.

That coming from the right as a right-hander and going backhand forehand through the five-hole has already been mastered by a little-known person in the NHL called David Pasternak 😂

That head down analysis. Sick. No pool passes are my jam. Can’t wait to start looking at the passer and rippin it.

I came here looking to see if Bedard ever uses the backhand, bc I haven’t seen him try it and it’s seemed to limit his opportunities in the show. From what I can see, he really doesn’t go backhand very often at all. As a Hawks fan, I’d love to see him incorporate that into his game…maybe it comes from watching Kane for so many years, but a filthy backhand is such a weapon…
2 games into his NHL career, I’ve been more impressed with every aspect of his game OTHER than scoring. I wasn’t aware of how well he played all 3 zones, how great of a passer he is and how well he sees the ice. For an 18 year old kid with the hockey world watching his every move, he’s been very impressive. I just wish the Hawks set him up better with more offensive skill players on his level. As it stands, he’s all opposing defenses have to worry about and they show him the respect of an accomplished veteran. I wish Kane was still around bc those 2 would be electric and I think we’d see Connor’s full potential

I don't think putting your head down is ever a good idea. That may be okay in Junior leagues, but in the NHL, dropping your head for a second is a sure fire way to lose it.

Goalies have lost the art of the poke check.

The move that no one can stop. NHL goalies are people, aren't they? Many of the goalies that he plays against will never play an NHL game. I'm not hating, just stating the obvious facts.

Bossy was known for keeping his head down when he shot the puck, too. He'd see the opening, put his head down, then shoot. And as we all know, he's got the highest Goals Per Game avg in the history of the NHL.

He looks down because he already know where he is going with the shot just before... Thats impressive to read it that quickly

Love the classic goal scorer's move of forehand to backhand which opens up the goalie's legs and you slip it easily in the gaping 5-hole. Guys like McDavid gets 20 extra goals a year with this move. It is unstoppable.

The "five-hole move" is Laine's signature, but the kid reminds me of P. Kane and Bure

For me, Bedard is a perfect mix of Auston Matthews shooting abilities and Mitch Marner hockey iq/playmaking mind.

He reminds me of Lafleur who loves his wrist shots. But he has the goal scoring prowess of Lemieux. It will be interesting to see him in the NHL.

Matthews shooting with Patrick Kane's playmaking.

Great breakdown. Kid does two moves that aren’t even remotely new, just does them absolutely perfectly and at the right times. Hate calling it early because we’ve so many not live up but this kids going to be special

His toe drag reminds me of Messier and Sakic.

that's spatial awareness to shoot accurately in the goal without having to look at it, very high IQ player
