For those stating that HTTPS or HTTP missing is the way to avoid this, it is not. We have shown that you can use Cyrillic characters that mimic them and it looks exactly the same. Further, you can simply make part of https cursive with additional markdown options and it goes through.

There are dozens of ways for this exploit to be used against the general public and there is not a silver bullet for it other than mousing over and confirming the link destination or paying attention to the "You're leaving discord" message which many do not.

The way he said, "What do we see that's wrong with this?", sounds like a teacher who loves their job and wants their students to learn as much as possible.

The overlap between company size and incompetence is literally one to one.

I love how the community said "please bring back the old usernames" and discord said "what it we just make it easier for you to get scammed instead?"

... You could rickroll so many people with this.

This is also probably even more dangerous for mobile where "mousing over it" isn't an option.

Have Discord been using Twitch's method of doing the complete opposite of user feedback then? 🤦🏼

If your token can be stolen by going to a third party website you have much bigger issues to reflect on

Thor mousing over that link is the online equivalent of the crocodile hunter. "Oi this heeeere is a doingerous Auth rippa! One clip and I'm dead!!!"

Discord keep adding this kind of shit instead of fixing/removing features nobody asked, wants or likes.

This was such a dumb idea in the name of markdown being uniform. This benefits 1% of users but hurts the other 99% yet they still think it's great!

I love how smart and kind big companies are and how they listen to every word of their community

One solution (and the solution I always use) is to just understand that random people wont give you free stuff for no reason

Solution: Don't click any random discord links. None of them. Don't touch it

When you have no friends, these scams don't work on you. I am immune.

Example of why trusting no-one is often the safest way to think.

discord taking “don’t do it” as a challenge seems to be a repeating occurrence lmao

As a fellow discord partner, I totally agree with this. I've personally reported this to the guys that were there for us before they got layed off. However nothing ever was done about it and I have to do like a monthly announcement to say that they shouldn't click any links no matter who sends it.

I find it very interesting how many stories you have of different companies having a meeting just for feedback from either professionals or big members on the community, only to then ignore everything that was said and do what they wanted to do anyway. Companies that did this that I remember at the top of my head are youtube, vine, blizzard (specifically the old team 4 from overwatch 1) and now discord.
