Discord made Scamming Harder (and also easier...)

Discord's "Dismiss message" just became a new scamming technique and people are worried.

But with Discord's new subtext feature, is this really something that we should be worried about? And is this related to people on Discord having warnings about "being hunted by the FBI" or "under investigation by Discord".

Now that's how Discord may have made scamming easier. But they added two new features that will make scamming on Discord harder (and potentially removing a certain scam from the platform entirely).

Just a general tip for your safety: Do not trust anything that doesn't say "System" in a blue tag. Only official Discord communications will have that.

they'll just start saying 'oo no, you can ignore that message. i'm totally a real discord employee' with people still falling for it.

I think for the "join servers for you" thing, discord should create an option to prevent automatic joins and instead explicitly ask the user every time an app tries to join a server for them.

That last bonus feature is actually really good.

The fact that we're unable to just disable the specific "join servers for you" feature on bots if we don't like it is fucking INSANE, like if I'm authorizing a bot to do something, I should be able to only partially authorize it.

the illegal purchase scammers/"youre gonna get steam banned" scammers sent me the funniest gif ive ever seen where its a video of my steam profile with my stupidly long username and then their mouse circling a "pending ban" image
so funny

Who would of thought that all it took discord was to make a simple string with a quiz on "Why are you changing you email and password?"

What I don't get with the bot automatically joining servers for you, they should instead engineer a system where it queues up pending server invites in a neat list so when you come online you can either accept or decline invitations the bot automatically lined up for you. This way legitimate developers and users can retain their wanted functionality whilst not being forcefully dragged into bad servers.

5:26 "if you combine them you get a pe-de-ef-file" great way to go around it 👍

Keeping up with all the new Discord scamming techniques can be difficult. These updates from Discord to help tackle scams are a step in the right direction.

0:40 if you look at the message itself, you can see that the "a" in "instantly" is squished as well. i think it's the quality of the image, not a way to bypass "Discord"
not that it matters but i just thought i needed to mention that

Glad the middle click issue was fixed skipping the link popup check
The rule of thumb is, When you click on it, it tell you the true link of the website. Also to note that you should always scan links reguardless.. Stay safe people and you too NTTS!

I genuinely thought for the longest time that Discord was supporting scammers and making it easier for them to do what they want. I am SO HAPPY to have been proven wrong (allegedly, at least).

With the one where they say to give them nitro for $100k, if you already have nitro it would be so funny to give them one of the free 2 week trials that discord gives you and then ask them where the 100 grand is
