Robert Lawrence Kuhn, chairman of the Kuhn Foundation and recipient of the China Reform Friendship Medal, delivered a speech on Wednesday at the closing session of the International Forum on Democracy: Shared Human Values.

Kuhn focused on what China calls its "whole-process people's democracy" – a mysterious phrase to Westerners, who assume that China's political system, which has neither multiple parties nor general elections, can be in no way democratic. He pointed out that the common root of China winning the war to contain COVID-19 and eradicating extreme poverty is the CPC's leadership and organizational capacity. Wow, such a good and easy to understand explanation of China's system of governance and their interpretation of the true meaning of Democracy and Human Rights! Thank you, Mr. Kuhn. Kudos to the Chinese efforts and determination to minimize inequality in their country, their great achievement and success in helping millions come out of abject poverty, which is the true sign of human rights?! I've watched quite a few of many videos showing how this was achieved. Enlightening, touching and impressive. Hope this can be achieved in all parts of the world where millions of people still live with no basic human rights/needs of clean water, sanitation, access to medicine, education and so on. Even some western countries could copy this endeavour? Especially in those rich countries where some of their indigenous communities still do not have access to clean water?

It should be translated as "Holistic People's Democracy" instead of the word for word "Whole-process people's democracy".

The arrogance of the West in it's claim that its way of doing democracy must be universal. Indeed Western models of democracy are in crisis with low levels of trust in government. That translates to popularists like Trump, Bolsonaro etc coming to power. That lack of trust however doesn't always manifest itself so clearly. Cynicism abounds right through the West with governance. China is exploring a different way. It actually is reflective also of their Confucian culture (not wanting the divisive conflict of competing parties).

Maybe i should change my mind about China but i'm affraid of 1984, still the Western supression of freedoms mostly by the left are a more scary 1984 than the chinise one. Freedom of expression + the chinise way of democracy may be nice.
