Chinas perception of Taiwan needs an update. The global perception of Taiwan is one that includes freedom and democracy in Taiwan. It includes the world purchasing over 90% of its key semiconductors from Taiwan. If China takes Taiwan semiconductor trade with China is cancelled. The world sanctions China and its a net loss for China and its partners. They play into capitalist hands then because capital in the west is guaranteed a tech boom with secure supply chain requirements. If China convince Russia to hurry toward peace then the western media cycle can get back to being friendlier towards them. Then Russia and China can modernise. They still have the issue of how to permanently oppress their people though. That’s all China really cares about. Control.

The difference is Ukraine was part of Soviet Union, while Taiwan has never been governed by China. The ancestors of most Taiwanese came from China, but Taiwan has never been officially governed by China. Taiwan has been never a part of China.

The greatest power relationship between China and Russia is to develop a comprehensive Eurasian alliance that covers political, economic and strategic relationship that evolves over time in order to re-balance the world representation of the interests for the global community vs. the Unilateral, ego-centric, US - Euro-centric prevailing global order... today, the world is witnessing a major historical realignment of global power relationships.
