I remember Winter as a 4-year-old. Wrestled into my snowsuit, my feet encased by a pair of Canadian Tire rubber waders for little kids and the itchiest pair of ill-fitting wool socks known to man or boy. Then I was pushed through the door into a Wonderland of frozen death. Immediately I needed to pee! Banging on the door for Mom yielded no response and guess what, now in addition to frostbite starting to eat at my toes I had pee running down my leg into my waders. We lived in the rural part of a rural part and there was nothing left to do but suck it up and start crying, frozen tears forming tiny icicles clinging to my eyelashes. Dad tried to teach me how to skate on the little frozen pond that we referred to as the "Backyard". I did not know that my feet could bend so far outwards that my ankles were sliding on the treacherous and too slippery ice. I made a snowman or tried to but gave up when I could not lift a second giant snowball onto the first giant snowball that I, like Sisyphus, had labored on. Golden memories indeed.
