From all my tests so far, the RODE VideoMicro II sounds identical to the RODE VideoMic GO II, which costs $99, plus $29 for the RODE WS12 Windshield. The Helix isomount works very well at absorbing impact noise and doesn't let the mic wobble around as the previous shockmount system does. Neither mic sounds as good as my other, more expensive RODE mics, but that's to be expected. At $79 the VideoMicro II, which includes a Foam Windshield, a WS12 Windshield (dead cat), and both a TRS to TRS and a TRS to TRSS cable for Smartphones is a great deal.

With V1, if you “throw it in your bag”while assembled, most likely will break the shock mount. Total PITA to disassemble it multiple times a day if you’re moving from location to location. Not an issue with V2. It’s a great value with all the bits included in the box.

The rode VideoMicro 2 share the same interference tube and the capsule. VM2 only lack of type c port so it’s actually 20 bucks for more feature but not the sound quality. You can even see the stats which is all same for the audio quality. The only reason why Go 2 is longer is for getting the chip inside which convert the analog to digital.

Both of the new versions of the VideoMicro ii and VideoMic Go ii sound almost exactly the same, and the Go doesn't come with wind protection, so there's an extra 30.00 for the softie. So that's a 50.00 difference in price for USB connectivity. If you don't need USB the VideoMicro II is still a way better value.

There's another comparison on YouTube where he goes between the Go 2 and the Micro 2 and they sound IDENTICAL, it's very surprising. So yes, you're paying for the sound of the Go 2 and a smaller size, but the Go 2 is still worth it to use in a studio for the USB-C functionality. I already have the Go 2 but it's too bulky on my XS-10 so considering the Micro 2 to replace my flimsy Micro 1

The VideoMicro 2 is noticeably better than the 1, but I can understand your price point perspective abotu the Go 2. That said, I needed something super ultra tiny and lightweight, which is why I went with the Micro 2, and it's been a good option for me. Yes, the livestreaming capabilities are a miss, but for someone that wants to use the Micro 2 on their compact camera system, it's an incredible value.

Big negativ point is that it just got 110db spl instead of 140db on the first gen. That reflect in heavy distortion in windy conditions and also useless for recording loud car audio or drums

Great Video, I also got one. Only problem is, I cannot seem to connect it to my Fujifilm XT30 ii. Do you by any chance know how I can use this combination? Which adapter or which cable I need? I cannot find anything on Youtube or Google, also my lokal retailer cant help me.. Any help is much apprecciated :)

The problem I keep seeing with usb mics, especially if you are using a dslr camera, is how bad that syncing is. That makes your Zoom call almost unwatchable.

Would it be a good deal for 50 bucks(with the fuzzy thing)? I would be using it mostly for indoors recordings in a not-very-sound-isolated room (freeway noise in the background)

Seem you don't know what you are talking about... Videomic Go II has no Windshield included, so it's not only 20$ in price difference, it's another 45-50$. Then Videomic Go II is nearly 3x as heavy and much longer compared to Videomicro II and the sound quality is nearly the same, not so much difference, only the Video Mic NTG delivers significant better sound. And last point, to recommand the older Video Micro (1st edition) is complete bullshit as the sound quality (output levels, noise, low frequence response) has improved dramatically with the Video Micro II

Thanks for this video! I was watching on TV but had to take a minute to comment. I was gonna get the videomicro 1 but it takes weeks to ship from Amazon. Saw that the 2 was frequently returned…so now I need help😅 THANK YOU! I will be getting this one.

I’m not tech savvy, so since it has the c port I no longer need the TRS TO TRRS adapter right? I’ll verify with chat GPT. Thank you 1000 times!

Røde VideoMic Stereo Go with USB when? I have a Zoom H1N but the dongle mess required to use it with my phone is unsightly and not gimbal-friendly.

The rode videomicro 2 is more of a cardioid rather than super cardioid and it comes with a deadcat. might be useful for more general outdoor filming scenarios.

Wow. No sound test on this review. Hmm

The VideoMic Go II does not come with a fur. That's extra, and you'll probably need it. So the real price difference to the VideoMicro II is a bit higher: About $45 where I live.
I have not tried the VideoMicro II, and since I don't see it in this video, I guess you haven't either. But I have looked at the specs, and the new VideoMicro II has much higher sensitivity and less self noise than the old VideoMicro. No surprise. You get what you pay for.
I probably won't buy the new VideoMicro II, but that's certainly not because I already own the old one. It's because I've bought the VideoMic Go II with a fur-coat.
I would never recommend anyone to buy the old VideoMicro.

Is strange seeing you wiggle arround the "non 2" and the "go 2" while talking about why the "2" is not worth it.
