Just tested this mic in various scenarios. Absolutely zero ground noise issues here so maybe you had a faulty unit...

for highly directional, distant recording, it's a good mic for the price. It's cheap as hell and isolates distant sounds pretty nicely. Great value. I don't get buzzing 🤷‍♂

This RODE VideoMic Go2 works great! With the AUX or USB cable. Sound is flawless. No hiss or hum whatsoever. If you're hearing that noise, check that your outlets are properly grounded and all the electronics you have around you and on the same circuit are plugged into a surge protector that has a powerline noise filter. This review assumes that the mic is the issue.

NO microphone is going to compensate for problematic studio set up or improper use. Used correctly, the Road Video Mic Go 2 works flawlessly. It did take me a while to figure out how THIS microphone needed to be used. But that’s true of ANY microphone. If you’re looking for the PERFECT microphone, good luck with that. Is it perfect? No! But at its price point, it’s pretty amazing. For the cost, it’s kind of ridiculous to expect it to compete with more expensive Mics.

Thank you for confirming this. I have this microphone, first microphone I've ever used to try and improve my top down craft videos...and I've been having a big problem with mystery background static and buzzing. I couldn't work out what the problem was, and finally discovered it happens whenever it's near my desk lamp or radio (even with the volume at 0).
It's been a nightmare, getting rid of it, and now searching for something better.

I have the same noise with their RØDE Wireless Go II. Sometimes helps more long cable from Receiver to Camera, but usually not.

Could I ask your cat (sorry, don't know his name) what equivalent mic he would recommend...Thanks..

I bought this mic and tried first time today. Firstly in my kitchen with the mic usb connected to my DJI Action 3, very distinct buzz. Then connected in the living room to the laptop via usb, Rode Connect app levels showed about 3/4 full levels of just buzz noise. I think inside a house, there is seemingly no way to remove the buzz and get this mic to be silent (without maybe tin foil etc).

I only get the rustle when using the TRS cable on the VMGII. With the USB cable (connected to the PC) I get a perfect sound.

Is there a way to connect the mic to the camera using the USB cable?

Thanks for video and YES this buzzing does happen on some of these mics, specifically the Rode Video Mic Go 1. It seems my interference was coming from my Router & Wifi only after doing some tests. I think if you are outside, less issues occur but not positive on that. Grounded would be better for these mics but until then, check the sound with headphones before recording. AI technology (Adobe) can clean this up if you get in a bind but I Am going to go ahead and buy the Go II and give it a shot just because it is the most portable best sounding and easy setup mic I have found for the money. Thanks!

I have an issue using this mic outside in low wind with dead cat . Lots of distortion

Is there something like a grounded cable that could make the noise go away!

Same problem here. I found this video after buying it. I want to use it for an office setup and the audio quality is great but there's a constant humming sound in the background which is not acceptable. I'm still debating if I will return it or try one of those ground fixes.

After some testing, its not the wire, the wifi, my phone, my cats or my camera but the mic only has the buzzing sound when I have my outlet extender turn on, the buzzing when you touch the housing is still there but I always wrap the mic's 3.5 cable around the housing and use the type c port to connect to my laptop so it kinda grounded itself lol idk. Otherwise the sound quality is just amazing, at least it cheaper to replace a cheap outlet extender than a $100 mic lol.
Edit: Its not the outlet extender but any outlets lmao, whenever I plug my laptop charger in the buzzing comes up again.

I encountered another problem with this microphone (VideoMic Go II). I always use it on camera for filming pets outdoor. It works really well on the Nikon Z6 II, even in auto mode. I recently switched to a Canon R6 II and this same microphone is a disaster in auto mode. Even in manual sound recording mode, I can't get it to have the same sound quality as the Z6 II. Not even close. On R6m2 this mic picks up too much white noise and acts almost like an omnidirectional (picking up sounds all around me equally). I'm thinking of switching to the Rode NTG now as I don't want to stick with the Nikon system just because of the external mic issues on Canon. I'm tired of struggling with auto focus on the Z6 II. 😀
