Fix It Or Blow It Up - 1986 Range Rover | Workshop Diaries | Edd China

How much can a car fail a government test? We know John's Range Rover is in terrible shape, and now that it's official, we have to decide whether to fix it or blow it up!

Driving 'Moss' Daisy back from the MoT station was far more traumatic that it needed to be, especially having just collected official written proof of so many issues. Had to stop five or six times just to let the gearbox fluid cool down and to add insult to injury each time I had to bridge the starter solenoid with an old key, as it would no longer start on the key! This week I go through the paperwork with the owner, John (partly to see him squirm a bit) and discuss whether we should keep on with our struggle to get Daisy back on the road or whether to take drastic action and pour our effort and money into a perhaps more deserving project.

China relishes the upcoming project, which invites viewers into his personal workshop facility in Buckinghamshire.

“I’m really excited to finally be able to bring this project to our fans as it is something they repeatedly have been asking for,” said China. “Workshop Diaries will let viewers really get stuck into the project and the detail of the fixes, and also provide a platform for instant feedback and interaction. It’s an exciting prospect and it’s great to finally get going!”

Wheeler Dealers 287K subscribers, ED 851K. Huge respect ED pretty much sums up why we all watched WD.

Well, that live chat thing was fun! We should do it again some time.

That feeling when for the last 10 minutes you know exactly what and how it's going to happen, but you still look forward to it with giddy anticipation.

The message when john said: "they broke my car"

Turns out that at this point John had a confession to make but his addled brain was protecting him from the embarrassing admission that it was in fact him that had broken the Range Rover once upon a time, back when 1986 Range Rovers were valuable, chiefly as the preferred to or the discerning raider; John had modified the switches on the dashboard to disconnect the starter circuit, hence safely rendering the vehicle un-startable should anyone try to steal it.

Don't explain why the interior lights are stuck on thought.

that took a lot of time to capture :)

Great episode Edd, CGI seems it was straight outta red dwarf, love the bouncy tire for added effect.

Always: fix it! You're Edd China and there is no car that cannot be fixed by you. Congrats, from Brazil, and I love The Channel on YouTube.

This may turn out to be Edd's most epic repair yet! I'm going to watch every minute of him fixing this one! Crazy!

Honestly, I'm very much looking forward to all the fabrication work when replacing the rotted out bits under the car. John better help with it though!

Edd, you take the mystery out of the repairs. No cut aways and it is magically done. High respect on how you show everything. Highs, lows, no starts. This is why people love your channel. Your honest and real. Keep it up.

7:24 the text that flashes up is this:

"Turns out that at this point John had a confession to make but his addled brain was protecting him from the embarrassing admission that it was in fact him that had 'broken' the Range Rover once upon a time, back when 1986 Range Rovers were valuable, chiefly as thepreffered tool for the discerning ram raider; John had modified the switches on the dashboard to disable the starter circuit hence safely rendering the vehicle un-startable should anyone try to steal it.
Doesn't explain why the interior lights are stuck on though! ..."

John’s sentimental value abt his RR makes me want to get back to my Alfa GTV6 and 33 16V!

Jo, I'm happy that John will keep his Rover an givi it (with your help) back to the glory and emotional days keeping all the exterior's personality and doing a fine work under it.

It give me memories of my old 1984 Renault 6 GTL that I have since 2018 and I did a lot of work on it.

I like the fact that there's still single-frame messages hidden in the video, such as "the admission" John forgot about... :P

Only stumbled across your channel 3 days ago as I've just bought a 93 RRC to restomod. Love the content and especially your discussion over viewer comments . The only trouble is, the videos are keeping me away from cracking on with my current E28 resto. Keep up the great work!

The pre-show countdown feels like a trippy version of the old Magpie opening credits, I'll get my coat.

I love this long list lol
In fact i had the same experience with the german version of the MOT the HU (Hauptuntersuchung / Main examination). I once had an Omega, bought it for 200€ drove it 2 years and wanted a new HU.. ( In germany we got 3 big companies doing the HU. The TÜV, the DEKRA and GTÜ) first i drove to the TÜV and i got list with 30+ problems. So i wanted to test how similar the organisations are and drove to the DEKRA. Again i got a list 30+ problems. NOT ONE was noted by the TÜV, so i got 60 completly different problems .... so i drove to the GTÜ, a few days later i was handed the report .... it had TWO words!
"dispose car" So i said to the owner of the workshop "Keep the car and i take the VW Yetta over there for free" He agreed and i got another used car
