Prosecutors argued that while he was "no ardent worshipper of Nazi ideology'', Bruno Dey aided the killings that took place in Stutthof as a "small wheel in the machinery of murder".

This is absurd. The guy was a very small boy when Hitler rose to power and was likely pulled into the Hitler Youth and was surrounded by Nazi propaganda 24/7. His parents could have also been Nazis and offered him further brainwashing at home. He was likely drafted into military service and assigned that role. NOW we're going to look back and judge him and find him guilty to "send a message"? If he didn't follow his orders he would have been court martialed and severely punished, potentially along with his family. It's very easy to judge people from way outside the context in which they lived and from our removed and safe perspectives. This is not justice but scapegoating. It's not right to do this just so that a nation and society can feel good about itself. The young people in Germany judging him when we all know that had they been born when he was they could have very well found themselves in the same circumstances is gross and massively dishonest.

During the war the US sent many Japanese Americans to internment camps. Granted, these were not extermination camps and quite different. Nevertheless, they were crimes. Are those guards going on trial? No, why? We won the war and they lost.

What were they expecting him to do? It's not like he had a choice.

No winners here. Horrible, terrible crimes that should never be allowed to happen again no matter what the cost. The other crime that should never be allowed to happen is the forcing of a 17-year-old boy into military and dictatorship driven situations from which he has no escape except to die himself. The life long psychological damage to him had to be immense. His suffering far greater than those shot in the back of the neck. Leave him alone now.

93-year-old man found guilty, which he was, of crimes he was forced to commit when he was 17 years old. Given a 2 year suspended sentence with no jail time. The "justice" process is complete and on record. Let him be.

Sure, it is not enough to just look away, but it is human..

He must have been no older than 12 when the war started.
