Normal, Crosswind and Power Off 180 Landings| PA28

FANTASTIC landings from Gareth! And this is so British it's beyond words.
Just a tip on power off 180s (We call them glide approaches here and we don't have such stringent landing requirements, just make it on the runway!). Since the student is being prepared for the eventuality of an engine failure on downwind, I normally do this on the 172:

Power idle, engine failure, wait 3 secs.
HOLD ATTITUDE, turn to runway straight away on a tight base.
You will be high, go full flaps right away, once the buffet kicks in from the flaps, nose down to adopt the "high drag config" attitude which gives 80 KIAS.

You will float for longer in ground effect, and it might feel scary to be diving but don't worry, once you round out just HOLD AND WAIT. Slowly nudge the nose up and establish landing attitude and land normally. You won't overrun, trust me. This prevents getting too low and prevents any uncertainty as to whether or not you would make the field. Turn right away and the field is guaranteed.

Also that maneuver you flew was called the EFATO turn back, which I am also trained on! The angle of bank can be increased as long as you get that nose down, turn at a 45 degree bank into the wind. Only do it above 700 feet!

So is that the "power off 180" that you need to do as part of the commecia check ride, or is it the one from the downwind leg? I've been thinking about getting my commercial, and that's the one that worries me a bit.

I'm impressed at the spot landings. Those are great. And the manual flaps are great in that regard. You don't need no stinking flap motors!
