GET AWESOME (THG) HOMEWORKGUY MERCHANDISE. SHOW DEALERS YOU ARE IN CONTROL OF YOUR NEXT CAR DEAL!

The Homework Guy Team publishes videos to help Car Buyers. We don’t hate Car Dealerships. Instead, we represent Car Buyers, a goal that’s often in direct conflict with Car Dealer goals.
A CAR DEALER WANTS TO:
1. SELL every car for the Highest Possible Price.
2. CONVINCE Car Buyers to use Dealer affiliated Lenders / Banks.
3. LOAD every Car Deal full of Fees and Finance Products.
4. OFFER Lowball numbers on every Trade Vehicle.

THE HOMEWORK GUY TEAM (THG) HELPS CAR BUYERS TO:
1. BUY a Car from Dealers or Private Party Sellers at the Lowest Price.
2. PAY Cash or Finance with their own Bank or Credit Union.
3. DECLINE Dealer Fees and Finance Products.
4. TRADE / SELL their current vehicle for the Best Value.

THG didn’t give Car Dealers their Bad Reputation. For more than 40 years, dealerships have EARNED it by being the masters of predatory selling. They stalk victims relentlessly, often ruthlessly treating the most vulnerable car buyers (like seniors, for example) with little or no conscience. Car Dealers and their Finance Officers have no problem creating financial devastation for their customers with over bloated car loans, and often do. While the business has had record setting profits, Dealers never stop telling Car Buyers “We’re losing money!” That’s the bed Car Dealers custom built for themselves. We point out the traps and the flaws of the process, and help car buyers get by all the nonsense without being ripped off. We promote fairness, honesty, and transparency, and we’d love to see a few dealers join our mission!

The Homework Guy Team provides car buying consumers with information, automotive news and updates, industry outlook, buying and selling advice, and other help to level the tables. The public face of THG is Kevin Hunter and the master negotiator, Elizabeth. Tons of time and research goes into every show, planning for weeks, several projects always on the table, all with the goal of getting it exactly right. From Automotive News Updates to vehicle shopping advice and assistance, The Homework Guy Team is the best there is.

They wanted to run my credit to know who they are selling the car to. I already had a approved loan from my bank 😂. I told them you are selling the car to Navy Federal Credit Union and if I give them a $560 monthly check they let me borrow it.

If you later find out your credit was run without your consent (be sure to check right after dealer visit, or better yet have a credit freeze or at least alerts set up), hire a FRCA lawyer to sue the dealer. It’s easy because the statute allows the consumer to recover attorneys’ fees, and there are statutory damages on top of any injunctive relief you can obtain (like a court order requiring the dealer to report to the credit reporting agencies that your credit was pulled without your consent).

This should be good. I’ve always gone in with funding in place. I don’t trust dealerships as far as I can throw them.

OMG! I was bullied into having my credit checked when I bought my X-5 for cash.I initially refused because I was paying cash and the credit check made no sense to me. The manager told me that he would not sell me the car if I did not agree to a credit check. He said it was the law and he needed to make sure that they were not selling cars to terrorists.

I already got a car thanks to you and some other good youtubers videos educating me. I almost got suckered into getting a car I didn't really want, then walked out when I got stuck in finance office. They were pissed. Ended up going elsewhere to get the car I wanted. Found a place that didn't even try to push any BS fees on me at all, and they got me a much better rate. I was very appreciative of this since I had visited so many dealers that tried to get me to spend 1-1.5k on stupid "service fees". Ended up getting the car I wanted(Mazda 3 in manual transmission, there were only 3 in all of DFW) on a very short loan with 70% of the cost paid in cash. Still watching your videos so that when the time comes, I can be even more educated for the next car I need. Thanks, Kev.

This is probably your most important video. Navigating these dealerships is like getting through a bunch of alligators in a swamp

I was buying a truck from a dealer and the dealership asked to see my identity. The salesman left for "administrative work" and my phone alerted me that the dealership ran a credit report on me, w/o my verbal or written consent. Salesman returned with a manager and I brought this to their attention. Was able to get the sale their snafu. The next day I was told the salesman left their dealership and that another salesman was assigned to me if I had any issues. Imagine that !

Never do a credit check on line by the dealer before you go to look at a vehicle. If you have your credit checked and do not buy a car c from them if will effect your credit score.

I just purchased a car for 9K cash from OCAUTO DOT COM here in Costa Mesa CA and they said that the Patriot Act required them to check my credit to protect against money laundering. WOW, I wish I would have seen this video 2 days ago. Thanks for posting.

A burning question I have is, "Can I refuse to provide my drivers license when I test drive?".

One place I read, "Many car dealers ask for your driver's license when you go for a test drive, and they will make a photocopy of it. They claim it is required for insurance purposes."

Another place I read, "Car dealerships have to carry fleet insurance on all of the vehicles on their lot, and a test driver is usually covered under that policy. Usually, fleet coverage will cover all damages that result from an accident that happens during a test drive, regardless of whose fault the accident was."

So if the dealership's Fleet Insurance covers any damages from a test drive, then why would a dealer need to photocopy the license card for insurance purposes?

Had it happen to me today. At a Hyundai dealer, Sat down he said need SS number. Asked why he said needed to run credit. Told him paying cash. Said needed it for Patriot act. Told him no. Went back and forth for a couple minutes. Got up and walked out. They just lost a sale and made a bad yelp review.

I absolutely hate Stealerships. Every time I step foot into one, I have an uncontrollable urge to take a shower when I get home. Even then, the stench of the encounter doesn't go away.

Freeze your credit reports. You can unfreeze when you need to get a loan. Here are the top three and one additional: Equifax, Experian; Trans Union, and Innovis

I've got some of my best rates thru financing with a dealer. The last car I bought they were lower than any bank or credit union I researched.

Cole Dodge in San Luis Obispo, CA did this to me in 2015..THREE HARD PULLS on my credit in as many months (One when I ordered a custom built car and TWO IN THE SAME DAY AT TIME OF PICK UP)

I went to the Sales rep and confronted him about about these hard pulls after I found out these credit reports sent my score from 800+ to 750, allowing them to screw me on financing and cause a 3.5% interest loan instead of zero %.

You’d figure sales, finance, and parts would ALL share a single credit report.

Not Cole Dodge.

They just did the second and third pulls without telling me they were doing it.

My credit score suffered for 18 months.

You missed the other reason they want to run credit early on. If they see you are a good credit risk, they will name higher prices for their cars because you can afford it.
