It is total bullshit that you need good credit to get an apartment but can't build credit for paying your rent on time. So this is pretty cool

Found out about Bilt a bit ago, but opted to not bother because: 1. it requires 4 other transactions (besides rent) monthly to earn _any_ rewards for the month which seems like a huge hassle as well as getting subpar rewards rate on those and 2. it becomes worthless if/when you do buy a place since it's their only offering and you can't convert it to another card worth using

I instead opted for a Discover Cashback Debit account that gives 1% cash back on debit card purchases, which can include rent--although most places also charge a flat rate (as opposed to percentage) "convenience" fee for rent on debit cards, I still pocket $13~14 a month in savings with far less hassle than Bilt though.

I write checks. Online accounts only have to hold payment information for 3 months. You can trace checks back much further than that.
