Is the Sony a7iii still worth it in 2021? In this Sony review I want to share my experiences: the good, the bad, and maybe even the ugly? I also touch on two questions a lot of people have: Does the Sony a7iii overheat? And does it have hunting / focusing issues? This is my Sony a7iii review: 2 Years Later.

I don't need A7III (I have a7rIV) but it was interesting nonetheless. It's true for other 'older' camera basically as well.

Being an 'old'' photographer who started using B&W roll film back in the 60's then progressing to 35mm in the 80's and finally to digital in 2010, over a 54 year period I do smile (sideways) at this fad for having the latest and greatest all of the time, I now use a D7200 which OK, is a fairly old camera but it does the job and it does it well, I recently sold my old Canon 40D simply because I wasn't using it that much so decided to pass it on. I have an old Zenit TTL (35mm film) that still gets used, my video camera is a Canon XF200 which doesn't shoot in 4k but do I care? No, it shoots in HD and that looks great. I have no plans to upgrade any of these as I don't get involved in 'pixel chasing', I also use (frequently) a pocket Sanyo Xacti for video work when out on site with my engineers and despite being a small camera it produces video that is good enough for training and even the built-in mic is useable.. There are many very very good used cameras out there that still have plenty of life in them including the Sony A7iii. Get a camera that you like and feels good and produces good results, don't think you have to upgrade every year or two, you don't. I have no plans to upgrade any of my cameras for the foreseeable future simply because they are damn good cameras and produce the results that I want, are there better cameras out there? Yes of course, do I need them? no I don't. Be happy with what works for you, even if it hasn't got the latest whizz-bang features.

Hey Lila!
Little tip for anyone interested - it seems stupidly simple but my camera has a tilt screen and a 20 minute recording limit (in 1080p) - so rather than a complex recording through a PC kinda deal, I use my watch which has a timer. I set it to 20:01 and press record and start on the watch at exactly the same time so that the watch going off won't interrupt anything that I DID get but it will immediately alert me when the recording has stopped. It takes a bit of getting used to but after a while it feels normal to hit the two buttons at the same time.

Hi Lila, thank you for your great content, i have same camera and i have issue about using Lav Mic connected directly to camera jack. It doesn't work.!! Do you have any solution?

I wish I had a flip screen but a camera monitor will do! The videos out of this camera still looks AMAZING!!! I'm nowhere near advanced to create shooting settings on my Fuji 😅 Still a newbie that's new to the camera world! YIKES! The face autofocus bug! That's great that you fixed the recording limit video! Awesome video Lila!!! I have the X-T3 and absolutely love it!!!

Great insight. I like the tilt feature on the screen if you’re doing handheld behind the camera stuff. On the a7c it is kind of weird to look to the left while trying to move forward or whatever you are doing off to the side. I do the same thing with my memory recalls too. A7c has 3 so i also set a time lapse memory at 1fps. Great job. Do you have the sony mic you mentioned? I have been interested in learning more about it but havent seen many reviews

Good long term review, (not for me though is Ive got other Sony’s!) quick tip though, when shooting high frame rates unless you need the audio use S&Q mode as it gives better quality :-)

I'm curious. Why is your video settings selected to PAL. With NTSC, you'll be able to get 120fp. Unless you live in an area that is only PAL

What about autofocus on Sigma and Native lenses? DO they have bouncing party as well or is it just tamron?

If you set the camera to NTSC mode you unlock more frame rates 4k30 and 1080p120. I think this camera is great value used and will last a good few years before needing upgrading. The newer Sony auto focus is noticeably faster and sticks to moving subjects. As a YT camera I’d say the A7C is great because of the size and screen. It’s almost identical on the inside. However it’s a pain when used in professional settings as to it have to dive into the menu system every time you want to change the settings.

Its still a great camera, love mine. No idea why YouTuber's think they need $2k full frame cameras and fast $1500 primes to shoot themselves sitting in their house, we don't care lol. You can literally use an iPhone for these videos and no one would care. Just a thought.
