In this example we have to find the area of a shaded region bounded by two functions.
YES, I know we can use geometry to find the area quite easily. But the idea in this example is that in order to find the shaded area that is bounded by the given functions, we must use a different integral for each region: that is to find the area between the two functions we need two integrals in our solution.
Again, a basic example but people often forget this idea in more complicated examples!
