That's is something like :
g = 15 gallons - m miles / 32 (gallons/mile)

Here the unit mile of 32 and of m will cancel each other thus giving gallons as a unit of m/32

g = 15 gallons - m/32 gallons
When we put m = 32
g = 15 gallons - 1 gallon
g = 14 gallons
Thus, this tells us that Alice's car can travel 32 miles to 1 gallon . Thus leaving the tank with 14 gallons of gas.

this doesn’t make any sense to me lol. since when do you do have to do reciprocal

(It might be wrong but matches the answer)

Lemme simplify if it doesn't makes sense :-

The equation => g = 15-m/32

Now here we need to find the units of 32 because this is what we are gonna need.

Here m/32 is definitely going to be gallons and m is miles but what in the world is 32 ?

Yeah, so to find the unit of 32 we can write it like this.

gallon(g) = metre(m)/unit

because as I said m/32 is going to be gallons and unit of 32 is unknown so we just call it unit.

Now back to the equation (2)
g = m/unit
g/m = m/unit*m [dividing both sides by m]
g/m = 1/unit
1/unit = g/m
:. unit = m/g
Which means unit of 32 is miles/gallon. Which describes to travel 32 miles it takes 1 gallon and thus the answer is D.

Now if Alice drives her car backwards for 480 miles, she'll gain 15 gallons of gas. The math works out, trust me

i took it as conversation factors in order to have the answer in gallons then the given values must cancel each other out to cancel miles you have to divide by miles in that way we know that the unknown unit must be miles.

I have forgotten what gallon even means now.

wh knows why he found reciprocate of both sides b4 multiplying

bruh idk why u have to do the reciprocal situation but the first two choices is cancelled out already because a car could just hold up about 12-16 gallons, 32 is too much

Why do we change gallons to 1/gallons
