St Kilda's golden start to Ross Lyon’s second stint as coach has continued with a hard fought 22-point triumph over Carlton to consolidate top spot on the ladder.

After 11 lead changes in a see-sawing opening two-and-a-half quarters, the Saints broke clear to move to 5-1 with a 12.10 (82) to 8.12 (60) triumph.

Five of the Carlton goals were free kicks in front or 50 m. They only got three goals of their own.

Would love to know how many goals Carlton has scored this year through free kicks? Seems to be ALOT every game.

The way St Kilda is set up behind the ball is elite. Their pressure is elite. Their athleticism is elite. Their ball movement was great. There were some beautiful kick passes by Hill, Higgins, Wood, Sinclair. Their small/half forwards were excellent. Ross the Boss is taking Saints to the finals.

IF ...
I'm going to make a big call in round six ...

THEN ...
it's this: underdog Blues are certainties to beat Saints. Still reckon they finish top four.

IF ...
in early February Anthony Caminiti wasn't among the 830 footballers whose names were on an AFL club list ...

THEN ...
by mid-April he has incredibly established himself as a key member of a team which has lost just one match, by one kick. His three-match sanction for belting Nathan Murphy leaves a massive hole in the Saints' forward line structure.

Brad Crouch, do this for Trevor Barker, Darrell 'Doc' Baldock, Tony Lockett, yourself and of course, R.L.

Not good signs for Blues when only 3 of their 8 goals came without the direct assistance of the umpires. Would have been more bleak otherwise...

Where are all these supporters who were like "Ross is gonna burn this club to the ground", and "If he's the coach, I'm no longer a Saints fan" etc. Ross. Is. Boss.

And people say st Kilda has horrible fans, half of Carlton’s crowd left at 3 quarter time

Voss's game plan is so ridiculously predictable and so inexcusably slow for the sheer amount of talent he has at his disposal (no pun intended).

Carlton suffer back-to-back losses for the first time since Rounds 20 through to Round 23. St Kilda are the real deal at the moment, but remember, they are yet to play against Melbourne, Sydney and Geelong. How far can the Saints go in 2023?
