Repairing a Fridge ...it was the fan! (Bodega AL42)

One tiny plastic washer brought an entire machine to a grinding halt. There's panned obsolescence for ya. ...or is it disposable culture. Whatever you call it, using a piece of plastic garbage to hold the fan blade on instead of a metal clip is standard operating procedure these days. The up side is that if you repair the cheap part(s) in an otherwise good quality machine you get something that works. I hope that's the only weak link I'll run into on this thing!

Take this the right way, because that is how it is intended. Getting problems thrown on you sucks, but you are one of two YT channels I really enjoy watching getting problems thrown in their face, because the problem solving is a real joyride. These videos are a real highlight.

Thank you for being you and doing your thing!

I watched your video this morning, I am having the same issue with my Bodega 80 qt, overheating. I followed your instructions and it was the same issue, a little plastic washer. Thanks for the advice.

fyi the reason it needs to sit upright for a while is the oil in the compressor can migrate in the pipes so you need to give it time to go back down in the compressor

Reminds me of the top of the range Electrolux I had that stopped working in a year, fridgie said it would cost $450 to fix and it was the fan, I said screw that, looked up and ordered the part for $35 and installed it in half an hour. What a crook.

It's a first time I see a spring in such fan. Weird. Also all fans like that, even the most expensive ones, have plastic lock ring which never wears out because none of those fans have a freaking spring. Planned obsolescence or bad design?

i guess the poor fan simply realized you are in love with wind-up fans now.. and decided to give up.. makes me a little sad.. 😛

Most things are designed in a way as to be conspiracy that involves a service contract.
Every screw an odd hex shape and hard to access. Practical design would see a removable pannel at each point to replace any part.

To get the temperature difference you want make a little cooler bag to put your fresh produce in so it wont freeze innthe freezer

I've had days like this lol - and that looks like a 120mm 12v pc fan, might be quicker and easier to just get a spare fan from the pc shop.

That's called an e clip, pull a few old computers apart they have similar or the same fan in them, and use for spares.

A 'Jesus' clip ... because of what you might say when it goes flying when you pry it off (which is not the best choice of removal)

Hell yeah, you saved $20 on buying a whole new fan that would just break again and a day of travel.
