I've noticed on the Ball flats that the sealing compound is skimpier looking than I remembered from years ago. Could be my imagination but I don't think so. Have canned potatoes and green beans this year using Ball products. Only had one that didn't seal but now I'm wondering how long the seal will last.

I noticed Ball going down hill when there was such a shortage in canning lids. I have also bought Ball lids that were dented on the edges and useless. The ones that are not dented have sealed with no problem, and I test the seal the same way you do. I bought Forjars lids, but have not used them yet, I am trying to use up my Ball lids.

I am super surprised that the ball lids are so terrible. Somebody had a bad day in the quality control department. I would be quite upset. I'm glad you found an alternative that seems to be better than the " name brand ". They look like it's a better quality product. They are also sold on Amazon.

I heard recently that ball lids are now made in China. I have a stick of them to find out the ones I've bought are not any good. They don't store as long as they used too. I put alot of money in these now have to by the for jars. Been hearing many good reviews on them but I'm very annoyed at ball. Wonder if I could take them back and get my money back.
