i've got myself a german shepherd when i was 23, it was a birthday gift from me to myself, my parents didn't accepted her, they wanted to throw me and her on the streets. so i took her with me to my workplace, 12 hours night shifts for a couple of nights just so my parents can cool off a bit and accept the reality and the new family member. 8 years later (present day) she's part of my family and we're all inseparable with her, she changed our lives for better, mostly mine. so my advice is don't EVER give up on a puppy, because someday that puppy will no longer be just a puppy that squeels and pees everywhere, it'll be a friend, a trusting companion, a guardian, an emotional and even physical support, a part of your family, a part of yourself...

We are now in our second older dog. Situation, so right after my hip replacement surgery, we got two puppies to Keep each other company, so every morning I was usually the first one up and the one who also got to clean up all the pee and poop then then after that, everybody took turns all day.
Finally, after about a month, we got them trained, and they do real good now. Sometimes it is annoying, though with the excessive barking and chewing.

And if it is a dog that sheds I recommend you getting the iRobot 9 from Roomba they sell them at Costco u will be thankful you did. I have a Belgian malinois she is a great dog the best dog I've ever had. Before the dogs I had were family dogs and we always kept them outside and they lived a long time they were all great dogs but this one is all mine and half the time she is in the house. She is a minute shedder she does not shed that much but there's still some hairs around but my robot vacuum gets them up and you don't even notice they're there. She was professionally trained before she was brought home, I took on the training from there and I tell you what" she is the best thing that's happened to me in a long time and I love her being around me, once you get your dog broken in it will be smooth sailing from there on. Yes I have to go outside in the backyard and clean poop but but that takes me about 15-20 minutes once a week and it's no big deal it's worth it when you have a K9 companion that you love and they love you back the same way it's worth it.
