when i went to Portland organ my aunt had hd on her new car radio she just got. we were able to use the hd traffic and hd weather in the car was so cool and as we moved from place to place it switched to the town we were in each time giving us live weather updates.

I like HD radio a lot, and the current Analog AM/FM bands are great. HD radio is such an awesome advantage! It's better for the future, but I got some sad news for you DX Enthusiasts, within the next 20 years, the US should do the Radio'S Analog to Digital Transition, that means they will cut the analog signal like they did to TV stations in 2009. N

Most base model cars I don’t even think have HD Radio still after all these years. I would figure since pretty much all cars have touchscreens now they would have them. But no, even though I’m sure they could literally put it in there for nothing, it’s still usually reserved for fancier vehicles and higher trim levels from what I’ve seen. Many cars I think you still can’t get them at all. It doesn’t really matter for me though since there aren’t many if any HD broadcasts in my area. Analog radio sounds fine to me though.

so the radio I just ordered has HD radio. Will I have to set anything extra up to activate it? or is the regular radio frequency always in HD?

I still don't understand the multiple radio stations coming from the same station when tuning into HD Radio. For example, are there 3 different DJ's broadcasting from the same station at the same time?

HD Radio is not affordable. It involves hefty licensing fees and royalties to radio stations. Plus the radio receiver is expensive. That’s why it’s a failure to launch.

Just pick up a new car in New Brunswick, no Sirius, but has HD Radio....cant understand why they would have shipped this car to us here, they do not have HD Radio service East of Quebec.

Those gas prices make me wish all the more that I had an electric car! Also, many modern electric cars have HD Radio equipped receivers out of the box from the factory.

The FM band will just die the death in Europe because they went with DAB instead to digitize, which of course does not use the conventional 88-108 FM band. Analog Rules!!

Anyway to turn the HD signal off and just listen to the analogue signal or is this just going to be crap tech shoved down our throats?

Nobody asked for digital radio and nobody wanted this, and the sound is nothing special at all. Maybe if the sub-channels were better, but I only know of one station with a sub-channel worth anything and the more sub-channels you have, the lower the quality. Not to mention it’s not even an open standard. DAB and DRM are the same or worse. Plus, with digital, it’s an all or nothing proposition. If you have a weak signal, it just drops out. With analog, you can still pick up a faint signal. It may fade, but you don’t lose it entirely. Digital radio is crap. Oh, and the auto-switch over to analog? Well, the digital signal is 10 seconds behind the analog!

Hd radio sounds terrible. And if you are lucky enough to get a good hd lock, it will fade in and out. SAY NO TO HD/DAB RADIO!!
