THIS is the ULTIMATE scan tool for DIY mechanics on a budget

A Professional auto mechanic reviews a scan tool that is very capable and very comparable with the OEM scan tools but it's a budget one that typically is a lot more expensive for it's capabilities.

In this video we'll take a look at the XTOOL D7 scan tool. Most people would look at this scan tool on amazon and think boy here's another generic looking scan tool that can't do much and cost a fortune. This is where we're wrong. This is a very impressive scan tool feature wise I think it super justifies It's price as it can pay for itself with a couple of uses saving you having to pay a shop to use their expensive scan tool.

I said this in the video but in case you're reading here READ THIS!

If you are not a DIY mechanic or don't want to really dig into heavy diagnosis, Then this scan tool is overkill. Stick with blue driver or Carista and you'll be good. If you do your own repairs but find yourself always going to a shop because the simple scanner you got is incapable then this is a good option for you.

This scan tool is not cheap, but for what it's capable of doing it is a very good value.

Can you do a video on how you would use this scan tool on a used car before purchase? Upvote this if you want this video made.

Was told I needed a $500 Kia intake plus labor. Tool showed flaps stuck. Intake valve cleaner in an upstream vacuum hose fixed it. Tool paid for itself on ONE job.

My wife is going to hate this. I have absolutely Zero need for this tool. I stopped working on engines years ago. But I NEED to buy this. What a great review. Thanks.

Thank you. Since I bought a 2007 Sienna I've watched a lot of videos. You are one of the few who actually do things right, explain everything and produce the most professional videos. I looked up the Xtool D7 scanner and book marked it. On a side note. Just bought a 2011 Challenger with the V6. I few things I need to take care of on that. I was sitting at the dealer and they gave me the speech and prices on extended warranty. $2000 for 30, 000 miles. My answer was. For that kind of money I can buy a really good scanner and do the work myself. Looks like this will do the trick. The world needs more guys like you.

This is my first time seeing AMD smiling from ear to ear like a kid in a candy store and super happy.

My lucky day. First time I’ve seen your channel. 7 minutes in I’ve subscribed. I have two $100 and one $180 dollar scanners. A month ago Scotty was raving about a $5400 scanner and I was seriously considering purchase. Thankfully I didn’t. Your communication, demeanor, production quality, vocational experience and status drew me in and the scanner review hooked me. I’m sold. I’m gonna buy. Thanks so mush. ( I’m a do it yourself- er.

I bought the Xtool D7 after watching your video. I have found that this scan tool seems to charge while it is connected to my 2019 Highlander. Thank you for your evaluation of this product. I love it. God bless!

I wi say its refreshing to listen to someone get to the point and not ramble on forever. I swear some of these YouTube must get paid by the minute.
I'm impressed by how much this Scan to will do and how he went thru everything showing us.
Can't think of anyone else n YouTube that has been this thorough.

DIYer here. I bought a lexus with a known bad transmission P0761. The deeper I get the more I need a proper scan tool. Now I see that I have to be able to activate individual valve body solenoids. Way cheaper than taking apart the valve body again.
Just bought one.
Subscribed.
Thanks.

Actually bought this and had it shipped same day because of this review, it works perfect so far. I'll be taking it to the car auction to really test it out later today!

As for your complaint about having to disconnect the dongle in order to store in the case, I always modify every tool I acquire, especially storage boxes, so I’ll probably be modifying the case to quickly store the entire cable assembly. I’ll also store the cable outside the box in the beginning by hanging it up to hopefully remove all the bends so it coils nicer. Either that or very gentle hot air gun to coax it out straight.

Just what I have been looking for.... This is the answer to most or ALL of my DIY projects and there have been MANY. Thanks a LOT.

Bidirectional control is very important and helpful if you are doing in depth DIY. It eliminates a ton of diagnostics so you can focus on inputs. Also being able to see streaming data. It is helpful to look at what is happening while the car is fine, say, how the O2 sensors are running. Then you have a baseline and can tell if something is wrong when the day comes.
