FAST AUTO FOCUS Anamorphic lens | Sirui 40mm T1.8 1.33x

This is Sirui's first attempt at an auto focus anamorphic lens for Super35 sensors which I find very impressive. It is a 1.33x anamorphic lens it is has some unique bokeh that gives you some character in the background.
The flares in this anamorphic lens aren't as prominant as they have been over the years and are more subtle.
It is a nice fast T1.8 which can be great for low light situations.

If I am going the anamorphic route I would do it for more "character", this just looks like a spherical lens.

Everyone complaining it doesn't look vintage-y anamorphic enough are missing the true point of anamorphic which is 1) wider field of view at 2) shallower depth of field. Color and softness and more 'character'-based criteria are just extra considerations to make beyond that, especially when so much of that can be achieved in the color-correction stage anyway.

Contrary to what the naysayers say, this is actually a perfect lens for corporate/documentary films where you want to maintain sharpness and add a bit of uniqueness to the footage. I would also use this for filming a narrative. Truthfully i lean towards a cleaner look in camera, which these lenses provide. You can always add a pro mist or similar on the lens and do some post processing to dirty up the image. Good review. I wonder how Sirui’s 1.25x adapter would look on this. I wonder if the thread size is even compatible. I will have to look into this. I’m also curious to see this on a GH7 with open gate.

Thank you for the great review ! Very interesting lens indeed. One important question to me: did you experience Jello effect with Ibis when using it handheld on the A7iv ? I tested lately the Sirui Saturn 75mm t2.9 on a S5ii and even with Ibis I experienced handheld some jello effect. I was wondering if it is reduced by a small squeeze factor... In a nutshell, is the lens usable handheld with an A7iv or any Sony FF camera ?

I'm interested in the lens for shooting 2.35:1 aspect ratio still photography on a Sony A9ii. Am I right in my understanding that I'd set the camera to 16x9 and then de squeeze in post. Would Lightroom be able to do this for me? Many thanks.

Hi, what are the nuances of this lens if used on FX 30 ? Can I shoot and see at least what is in the camera monitor or will I need to install an external monitor ? And what is the right way to shoot with 1.33 and then to do the alignment in the editing ? Thanks ! I want to buy it, but I'm still afraid, never had an anamorphic lens before .

If I use it with fx3 without crop, will the black borders around it deeply affect the frame? This is my first time approaching anamophic. If it is cropped, will the ff have too many black borders? I watched the video but it was not very clear. Thank you.
