I have dieted since childhood. I had two bouts with anorexia but when I recovered everything went the other way and diet after diet resulted in more weight and I'm almost 300lbs. Last year I lost 45lbs then stalled regardless of cutting calories more for a year. Because now I lose control and binge. I keep trying and feel like if I just stay disciplined I can start losing weight again. I listen to Alan Roberts and agree that people have control over their weight but am starting to consider a different approach because 30 years of calorie counting has resulted in me being fatter. I just can't make it work. So I started intuitive eating ideas but they scare me because I gained 15 lbs back. I don't know how to let go of losing weight. I hate it and want it gone. I don't want the pain in my body, the lack of energy, and difficulty doing the physical things I want to do. I don't even care how I look, I just want to be free of this heavy struggling feeling. So that is where I am.

How long should people try this? My sister has been intuitively eating for a few years now. She is up 100 pounds. She says she has healed. I don't get it.

I think intuitive eating works for me, as well as intuitive training (Tally Rye's Train Happy). I find it reduces binges. Keeps my weight from yo-yoing. Must mention I abstain from alcohol, sugar and flour to avoid cravings. But I eat carbs, even simple ones like honey. I try to honor taste hunger but to abstain from compulsive emotional overeating. I think that's part of Principle 10: Honoring your health. As an athlete (aspiring bodybuilder) I wonder how my approach is going to work. I haven't written off dieting for a competition, but healing my relationship with food right now off-season is my priority. What do you think? Pretty good video by the way. Weight-neutrality may be a tough pill to swallow for us guys who want 6pack abs, but dieting I think just makes it worse. I'm working on stopping when I'm a 7/10 because I usually eat until I'm 8/10 (Intuitive eating helps me avoid 11/10 LOL, which I hate). I hate eating 8/10 or 9/10 because it makes me lethargic and makes me waste time because it robs me of energy to work, study, play and spend time with loved ones and think clearly. Would appreciate any input!
