The television and online journalist has worked as a television host for the “big three networks” and has interviewed countless famous celebrities and public figures over the years. She’s known for her warmth and deep insight when interviewing guests on her shows, but there was an infamous interview back in 2004 that left Couric “shaken.”

The interview was with A-list celebrity and Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington. Couric recently recalled details of the interview on the podcast "Everything Iconic" and dished out why it left her shaken.

She's basically been given a free ride most her journalistic life and was happy to be lazy. He called her out on it and she didn't like it. Phrases like 'You people' or 'People like you' or 'Hollywood types' etc are just lazy journalism. People didn't push back in the past, probably because they didn't have the time or the stomach to put her straight, but the one time someone did take the time, she didn't like it and played the 'Victim card'. Lesson: Don't be a lazy journalist. RESEARCH your interviewee, and actually try to think of some original questions that hopefully allow a dialogue that can be mutually rewarding or at least informative. Don't expect people to fill in the blanks on your leading questions specifically written to achieve a pre-planned agenda.
