Learn THIS Programming Language in 2022!

What Programming Language Should You Learn First in 2022? Which programming language should you learn first to get started learning to code? What programming language should I learn to get a job?

These are the questions in the minds of most people beginning to learn to code.

The Odin Project (resource mentioned)

Python vs Java vs Javascript vs C++

In this video, I WILL give you an answer to that!

If you’re new to programming, the first question burning in your mind is probably:

“Which programming language should I learn first?”

or

“Which programming language is the best?”

Firstly I want to say that I actually hate both of these questions (especially the second one). I think they are the wrong questions to ask. Anyone with a little bit of experience programming will know that what language you choose first isn’t nearly as important as understanding the underlying logic of programming which is more or less the same across all languages.

When to use a for loop, how to use variables, when to use recursion..these are the types of concepts you’ll have to understand as a programmer — no matter which language! And if you understand them in one language, knowing how to use them in another reduces to the trivial matter of finding the correct syntax.

But with all that being said, I do in fact think that asking the question of ‘which language to learn’ is in fact reasonable.

The last disclaimer I will make is that the language you choose will depend on your goals.
-To learn Computer Science fundamentals, you should probably go with a low-level language like C (in fact, if you are pursuing a CS degree, this choice will be made for you anyway so the question is redundant)
-For Machine Learning & Data Science stuff, you should probably go with Python because it’s the industry standard
-I know nothing about game development, but I hear they use mostly C++

HOWEVER, if you are like most people, you probably want to learn to program because you just want to get a job as fast as possible and/or you’re just first delving into the world of tech with no specific goal other than ‘learning to code’.

And for these people, ie for most people in most cases, I do think there is one language that is actually the “best” one to start with

So then what is that magical language you ask?…(drumroll…)

Totally agree with starting with C and Python to best learn, but I don’t code in these languages anymore in my full time job

I started with C# and i can confirm that JS is important and we need to deel with it even if we don't like it! 😅 Even my teacher has "brain bugs" and a really sad face when we need to use it! 🤣

I'd like to chime in that for game development, the programming language to start with can depend on the part of a game development that you're interested in. C/C++ would make sense if you were into game engines, the core program that runs games itself.

If you'd want to deal with implementing gameplay mechanics and the likes of it, this is where things can depend. Using an existing game engine would mean that the language of choice would be tied to the scripting language it decided upon. Unreal Engine uses C++, Unity in C#, other engines like Godot supports a few including one they came up with called GodotScript.

And of course, there's visual programming (like Scratch) that places blocks and diagrams in relation to each other to implement logic.

Yes, I agree. I started with Python on my own but for freelancing etc. there are not much gigs for the stuff that python can do(machine learning, datascience etc), So then I started web development and Yes! Now i regularly use Javascript in front-end as well as backend.

I started with python, than thanks to CS50 i know C, I'm not very proficient in both of them but ya i understand and know their basic syntax and now I'm fully into Golang, thanks to my interest in DevOps and cloud native, where Golang is being used like everywhere and now I'm looking forward to become a Golang developer ( a self taught ). Knowing C helps u in learning Golang. So i feel it's just upon you, what language u find interesting and where u wanna see yourself in coming years.

THX! Nice Video! Best way to learn programming is with a pseudocode like "Karel the Robot" on github.
