Totally agree. I learned the most from a terribly coded thing that I built and I never actually used it. I had a boss that taught me a lot and he had a great quote. "If you had to know how it program something before you started then you would never build anything. You need to have blind faith that it is possible and start walking." - Sean Gibson.

How can I use machine learning to figure out what Lex is looking at outside that window?

I appreciate Lex remaining humble and giving a reasonable answer as to why a person would ask a question like that. I very much dislike the gatekeeping mentality that George has. Everybody starts out asking questions that seem basic or even stupid. It can be difficult to articulate a question on topics you're not familiar with. Lighten up a little, George

Ive been a professional developer for 20+ years. Everything that Ive written that I am super proud of is something either a) Ive done on my own before I had a job or B) someone above me at my company said we werent going to pursue something because it can't be done. The common denominator is trying to find a solution to a problem, never trying to find a problem for a solution.

I once asked a brilliant c programmer I knew if I should get in to programming, he asked, do you have a girlfriend? Steady job? Social life? Family you care about? I answered yes to all the questions and he replied no 😂

The problem I've had with programming is a lack of problems I need/want to solve. Programming challenges, like the shit they ask in interview questions, are a breeze, but when it comes to programming something that actually does anything...

This insight actually applies to learning any subject in the world, not just programming. The subject could be math, soccer, or vaccines. People will be motivated to learn a hundred times faster if they are actually working to complete some important objective, rather than just learning the general techniques of a subject area in a class. For example, people will work much harder towards creating a vaccine to stop Covid-19 and save everybody in the world, rather than just taking general biology courses about epidemiology. Kids will learn soccer skills better when fighting in a soccer game to win, than practicing dribbling the ball for 30 minutes in a field.

May be the example is not the best, but If you expect from someone who's selling macaroni and cheese to know about Machine Learning before asking you questions about how you could improve their's business using it, the one who should find another job is you.

Irony of the YT ads algorithm: at the end of the video a moron pops up asking if I want to master machine learning 😂

This is so true. If you want to do something, you will try and fail and try again and along the way you will learn. That is how you learn anything really. You keep trying.

I love this! Have a problem "A" which can be solved by solution "B". Too many times companies see solution "B" without ever identifying what "A" actually is.

😂 I LOVE YOU TWO!!! I hear this all the time, “Wow, that’s cool, can we have <replace with the newest, coolest thing>? Do you know what that does?” 😂
