Outrageous how hard this boat is running. The stresses on the rig, rudders, basically every part are more than any materials can take for very long.

The guys I worked with weren’t able to understand why I laughed at their little football game until I showed them videos of the Ocean Race and Sail GP. Taking 2 hours of television time to describe 8 minutes of actual movement against a 30 minute video highlighting a race that takes weeks and runs 24/7…oh, AND can result in your death….yeah, that kinda shut them up. The term athleticism doesn’t even scratch the surface of what these competitors have to be able to achieve just to get across the finish line. It’s a whole mind /body control.

Yesterday was the start of the vendee globe, a Non-Stop solo sailing Race Across the globe unassisted. It usually takes 80 to 90 days.

Now thing of this guy, trying to get some sleep, in this airborne wave crashing monster. I guess he will de-power before nightfall and sleep. Just think they can spend days or weeks, thrashing into the waves, and not break anything. Huge respect for the psychological & physical resilience & strength required. I think it puts many other sports to shame.

This is a hot shot vessel, “underway, making way” and looks Stylin’ and Studley while doing it. Perfect amount of sail in the air too. That staysail and probably triple reefed mainsail show many what their sail area should look like in these conditions… Too Sweet!!!!
