Very lucky to own both watches, Datejust 41 if a far superior watch for every day. It wears very comfortable, no crown guards, the Sub wears like a 43. The datejust you just put on and forget- I have the Roman Numeral, Smooth Bezel Azzuro on Jubilee, the bracelet is fantastic and it hides any scratch, also being all steel is a perfect daily watch. The Sub feels heavy, big and crown digs into your wrist, case shape Lug to Lug is also sharp and not as smooth as the Datejust. I would personally recommend datejust first on Jubilee smooth to anyone looking to get started. Its way dressier and looks amazing casual.

In my opinion the no date black sub is the most iconic watch ever desiged. If I had a choice to have just 1 watch. Its a no date sub

My 1st and only Rolex is a 2 tone datejust 41, Oyster, Fluted, Black Dial. I like the sub, but the CPL are the wat to go. In my opinion.

While I have both in my modest collection and wear them often, IMO, you can’t beat the sub. 41 ceramic no date is simply gorgeous to stare at when you should be working at your desk😂

What is true I can’t wrap my head around it, I feel like getting the Datejust is the best move and I love the explorer, and the sub, but what probably gets me is looking at the chrome Rolex crown that feels special

What an amazing conversation, to the point and very cogent points!

When I think of Rolex, the first watch that pops in my head is the Sub Date. The very next watch is the Datejust. Ideally, you want to have both, essentially the perfect 2 watch collection for all scenarios.

Great perspectives. I just purchased a 41 Datejust Wimbledon Rhodium dial with Roman numerals, jubilee bracelet. I think it’s my “dress” Rolex. I find I wear my 116500LN white dial as my daily.

I love the classy look of the datejust, with the jubilee band.

If given the opportunity to choose, I’d purchase the Submariner 126610LN; however, in the real world, it’s more likely you will be allocated to Date-just when you are starting out in this hobby.
Both timepieces have a place in a collection.

Go back and watch episode 45 where Ryan trades his 124060 for a 126234. I think the 41mm Datejust with Jubilee is the way to go. It'll show less scratches on the bracelet.

Awesome segment Josh and Michael! I agree with both you all. I would have to get both for my collection.

Ive got both. Answer is definitely the sub

I have both and choose the sub because it's much more versatile. Yes you can wear a datejust with jeans and a T-shirt but to me it's way too flashy. It comes off pretentious. Sub you can wear with anything.

I picked up a two tone sub ref. 126613ln last week. I was on the waitlist for a Wimbledon Datejust 41 and I saw the sub in the case and had to ask. Sure enough it had just came in from Rolex. It's and amazing timepiece.

Still think the DateJust smooth bezel oyster is the best all round watch you can get. Personally the blue dial

I think the sub, the Datejust, and the explorer work for every occasion, wearing a sub with a suit or a tux to a dinner party, subs are very hard to acquire and it would still be cooler than John’s aqua Terra or Kyle’s Cartier santos, you will still look baller and James Bond wore a sub with a suit.

Mine is Datejust 41 yellow gold with jubilee.

Great content. Just the right length for the topic.

If you want or can afford only one Rolex the Explorer is the way to go because it offers the best versatality and robustness in one watch. If you are able to get two Rolex watches then get the Submariner no date in combination with a two tone datejust.
