In this video on Hemifacial spasm and quality of life, we explain in detail how the patients who suffer from hemifacial spasm often experience a poor social interaction and have personality changes like anxiety and depression.
Hemifacial spasm not only causes cosmetic problems, but is a much more serious condition. Often, our patients at the MVD center here in Pune under Dr. Jaydev Panchwagh describe unwillingness to continue in life because of social withdrawal.
When the disease begins, it manifests as 'under eye twitching' or 'under eye vibration'. Soon it leads to 'winking of eye' like effect. Further progress leads to cheek twitching or cheek vibration and then entire half of face is pulled to one side.
Hemifacial spasm treatment is unfortunately not medical or even by botox injections. Microvascular Decompression or MVD surgery (brain surgery) is the only permanent solution for hemifacial spasm treatment.
