On thing that is rarely talked about in these conversations is the fact many of us who struggle with weight eat when we are bored, stressed, tired, others are eating, we see food, etc. This has nothing to do with hunger, hormones, satiety or anything biological. I ate for all those reasons and I didn't stop because the food was still available. It could be a steak or a bag of chips. What changed for me was eating low carb, stopping all processed food eating and beginning intermittent fasting. This was like a meditation retreat where I was able to develop self awareness around my eating. I learned to tell the difference between triggered eating and hunger. I was able to go day to day without snacking. I could experience hunger and it's passing. I discovered which foods were triggering and what satiation felt like and what it was like stopping eating at that point even if there was still food on my plate.. These days I don't eat before 11 or after 7, I eat two low carb, high protein meals with some fat and no snacking. Losing weight, feeling fantastic. I love the science but at the end of the day developing the ability to restrain impulse eating and eat for fuel rather than to scratch the eating itch is the way for me. And what has made it possible for me to develop this ability is time restricted eating and no processed foods. Theories are interesting but we can't eat them for metabolic health.

Thanks for the discussion 😊 Does the model account for bioavailability of nutrients? Take spinach for instance which I understand is a 100(?)... I understand a lot of the nutrients aren't available due to the binding with oxalates..

It's amazing how something so common sense and so fundamentally simple EG: eating less to burn fat and eating protein as your primary food source (NOT rocket science ) has turned into a whole career for MANY people !!

Among my favorite "gurus" are Sean O'Mara MD, Zoe Harcombe PhD, Timothy Noakes MD, Nadir Ali MD, Eric Westman MD, Ben Bikman PhD, Robert Cywes MD Georgia Ede MD and Chris Palmer MD. Satiety for me means that i can eat two meals per day and not be hungry the time between the two meals. I think getting a Continuous Glucose Monitor, and wearing it for just one month. It seems that a food that might cause a glucose spike in one person might not do so in another. It seems to me this is rather an incontestable proposition. I do not give a damn what diet is right for any of you very brilliant people. As for epidemiology is very close to being utter voodoo insofar as devising what is the most appropriate diet for any particular individual.

For so many of us who have become carb addicts from eating the so-called Standard American Diet which is filled with sugar, ultra-processed foods and seed oil, ; fruits and even starchy vegetables, and so many other foods stimulate hunger and intense cravings. For us, with our hyperinsulinemia and pre-diabetic or diabetic states, a strict ketogenic diet of some source seems to me to be the only way to go. I am a retired physician with a history of NAFLD, pre-diabetes and hypertension. 18 months on a fairly strict ketogenic diet has caused me to no longer need Metformin, I quit taking a Lipitor in 2019. My TGs are now way down at 60. My HDL is way up at 60. My LDL is up, and I do NOT care. I don't believe that saturated fat consumption is a problem in the setting of high HDL and low Triglycerides. I reject the whole idea that Fat consumption or high LDL cause heart disease. I am embarrassed that I for many years treated patients using guidelines of the formulated by the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association.

1:02:00 in. Raphi, you’re still counting and measuring with low carb. Just because you switch from calories to carbs doesn’t change that fact. Also, the low carb approach hasn’t been useful because all it did was create an army of people demonizing and fearing freaking apples. CIM also has so many black swans that it would be embarrassing to continue with that as being the model that explains all of this. At least with SPC and EBM, they can explain the black swans. And people can still eat low carb following SPC, so don’t be so bent out of shape about it.

I’m trying this diet with my sister. 30g protein each meal, eat that first and then move to a veggie, then some carb if want.

It was hard to listen to. Alot of red herring and cognitive dissonance coming from the keto camp. The Satiety per Calorie model is brilliant and easy to understand no need to over complicate it.

The regression to "cut your fat, count your kcal to lose weight" at Diet Doctor, made me lose respect for their credibility some time ago. Especially since they were advocating keto, low carb back then. It's a Frankenstein attempt of being open to keto but holding onto the unscientific calory model. Both models don't work together

i'm just a caveman. words like satiety and hedonic confuse me. but i do know i eat 550 pounds of fatty beef every year. never hungry. carnivore is cool

I gained 20lbs eating high lean protein... why? Chicken breast should be high in satiety
