Biomed is CHALLENGING. I'm on a placement year now, so I completed my second year. Second year was full of really demanding assessments like lab report, essay, etc. The depth of the topics seems daunting at points, that being said I feel I gain a lot of skills I could use in future career (which I'm still confused about and try to figure out). Great video and eye-opening for biomed prospects 💜

I came across the same article a few months ago! (Gh**p*). I also felt a cringe! I imagined this was a person who aimed for the NHS (HCPC, IBMS stuff) and felt frustrated. I have been looking at going into biomedical science for a while but have been worried about the career options in the field. I actually came across this article not too long ago and was almost ready to give up and switch majors. Definitely found this video at the right time!

I'm a second year biomed student .the course is definitely not easy. We have so many lectures, labs (more last year due to pandemic) and coursework/lab report. we read scientific articles and analyze them. We do statistics and use software such as Jamovi and spss.
it is definitely not useless although some modules are not to my liking such as genetics. However, biochemistry module, physiology and immunology module is very interesting.

What are the problems faced with being a biomedical scientist?

Uhhh I mean, with biomedical science in undergrad I am able to knock out medical school pre requisites, nursing courses don’t meet their pre requisites, you’d need to spend around 2 years after college knocking out courses such as chem 1, 2 physics 1, 2 orgo 1, 2

Biochemistry is notoriously one of the worst degrees for employability, that article gave horrible advice on that point. Either do straight chemistry to work in the industry, or do biomed/medicine to work in research eventually.

Avoid The biomedical sciences unless you 'know' your going into the medical profession and are willing to get into 200k debt for it.

Love the viewpoints! The video was super fair and is a nice contrast to the article! You did such a good job of elaborating on alot of the points I was trying to get across! Been a massive fan for a while so meant a lot when i stumbled across this today! Read my other articles, most are much more positive because biomed is a good degree! Ideally, I just want school leavers to be a bit more aware of their options, and hopefully, learn from my own mistakes and misconceptions. Thanks again!
